Id like to get an electric fan, and Ive heard the best thing to get is one from a Mark VIII along with the controller/relay. The fan is a no brainer, but how much or what do I have to get as far as the wiring? Ive done some research and it seems the factory uses a 2 speed controller that works better than any of the inexpensive aftermarket fan controllers. Im just not sure what I need for wiring or where it would be located.

I'm not familiar with the 65' falcon, but if it has a small radiator like in the 65' mustang the you can forget about the Mark VIII fan since it is much wider.

Bump for you for more info.

Eric,

Can't answer your Mk8 specific questions either, but I do know that your favorite junkyard (mine too) had a couple Mk8's a few days before Christmas. They even had a V-8 '65 Mustang right out front (which is really odd for our part of the country).

Any way, I picked up this fan from there (came out of an Econoline). It flows enough air to pull my car down the road It's sitting behind a Northern 19x26 (for size perspective). It's a single speed. I paid $15 dollars for it. There were more of them there.

Using an eBay sourced 75amp Bosch relay.

One of my friends has a warmed over 65 coupe with a 289. He uses a Fiero electric fan and claims it is adequate and fits fine. Looked good to me.

Fans from the 3.8L Taurus are popular. I got mine for like $15 from the junkyard. Two speed fan, high-speed requires a high-amp (70 amp) relay. They pull a ton of air.

I got a Taurus fan on a Northern radiator. A 75A relay and a better than stock alternator (at least 100A) is required if you go this way.

I don't know of anyone using the stock controller. I looked at one and it has about 24 terminals on it. The guy at the salvage yard said it also controls something else, but I cant remember what it was.

Schmaylor auto? I found a NEW favorite yard! Not sure if youre familiar with Parts Galore, but its similar to Taylor just a lot bigger and cleaner. They have 2 locations. Just google "parts galore detroit" and youll find it.

I already have a 3g alternator, so output is no problem. Im a little leary of the aftermarket relays because I was reading an article on here (or maybe fordmuscle.com) about electric fans and relays, and it said that most aftermarket relays simply click on/off which can cause a huge amperage spike, but the stock relays/controllers somehow dont do that.

Out of curiosity, what uses the same fan as the 3.8L Taurus? I would assume the 3.8L Continentals and Windstars would be the same, since I think they all use the same cradle assembly.

As long as the relay and the rest of the wiring is good, the sudden current draw doesn't hurt anything.
Spal makes an aftermarket controller that offers variable speed.

Checker sells the assembly and states it also fits the 91-95 Sable:

the fan blades and motors were all the same for Ford fans,The only chages were to the shroud. You can use a Mark VIII,Taurus,Mustang etc.

Focus had a twin fan set up.

I somehow fitted 96 m8 radiator assembly to 67 coupe but I doubt it will fit 65. I had to chop about 1/2" of some plastic from side and relocate the motor to the opposite side because it was interferring with the water pump.

I used the 93 Ford Taurus Fan on a 20" radiator. I trimmed it down and it fit
perfectly. I did switch radiators because mine was still gettting to hot. I went
with the Northern 25" radiator. I went with a DC Controller unit. Its worked with no problems.

I have a MK8 fan in my 93 coupe (daily driver), its run great for the past 3 years. I have it connected to a Delta Current Controller which is one of the best ways to run this fan. My temps dont go above 190* during the hot texas summers while sitting in traffic in Dallas.

Im looking at ways to install one in my 67 coupe too...

I may go this route, seems to fit a 16X24 fan very well.

Hello,

Not sure what my radiator size is exactly but it is from a 1969 Grande with factory AC.

Other then trimming the notches and creating the mounting bolts it fit like it was made for it.

Should be the same size as mine, I have the AC 69 radiator which is approximately 16X24.
