Borgeson steering box questions

Still reading threads on rack and pinion and the more I read the less I like the idea.

Seems there is more down side to rack systems than there might be positives as I see it anyway.

I came across a post regarding the Borgeson Steering box. It seems there are several that are happy with the stock steering set up using this box.

In my case all my tie rods are shot, the PS steering hoses are also shot. The pump was working. Hopefully the power steering control value is ok and I can rebuild the cylinder if needed.

One problem is the stud on the control valve shaft is very worn, can this be rebuilt? Sorry if I have the wrong name for that threaded lug.

With added steering radius, possible bump steer and other issues with racks, I am leaning toward retaining the original steering system.

If anyone can help with my questions and where best to get the bogeson box, please reply.

if you get the borgeson power steering box you can dump the stock power steering crap, the control valve, the power ram, etc. and use a manual steering drag link. you can keep your stock power steering pump as i recall though as long as it is working ok.

That can save me some bucks.

1) The tie rod ends would need top be replaces to use the Borgeson.

2) The valve is not hard to rebuild.

3) The boot on the stud end can be replaced, and the seal on the shaft can be replaced. If the rod is smooth and straight, that is.

4) The ball stud sticking out of the valve gets thrown away, there's a new one in the rebuild kit.

Borgeson has a new intergral power steering box out that bolts in place of the original unit. You don't need the ram or related parts to make it work. There is a discussion on it in the Vendor Sponsor Forums above. Check it out, some good info there.

Now since this system requires a manual steering drag link and all my tie rods need replacement if I should be ordering manual steering type tie rods.

Yes, if you are going Borgeson get manual tie rods and manual center link.

What is it that you are ready about rack that you don't like ? I will never go back to a box.

Cost, fragility, possible bump steer, and loss of turning radius.

I am of the same opinion regarding the Bogenson box and really wish we could find someone here that has made this swap. I am not really wanting to loose any turning radius but also dont want to be suprised with installation issues.
These 225's are killing me.

I've installed the Borgeson box... it's pretty much a bolt in, but you do have to buy the steering rod and rag joint as discussed earlier...

I can't speak to turn radius just yet, but I drilled the Borgeson dude pretty good before purchasing and he was adamant that there are no downsides to this upgrade. The mounting bracket seems well made.

Well... I haven't got the car back on the road yet, so I can't comment on how the steering is yet, but the setup is pretty slick. Alot less than a R&P kit.

I got it from Jegs, you have to put the part number in because at the time I ordered mine, you couldn't look it up by vehicle. I think I had to order the power steering lines direct from Borgeson.

Jegs had the parts much cheaper than anyone.
