My bro just got the regular borla cat back and a magnaflow catted x pipe installed. His exhaust tips dont line up. The passanger exhaust tip sticks out 2 or 3 inches farther past the rear bumper cut outs than the drivers side exhaust tip. The installer said its just like that because the x pipe's for mustangs arent even. He said that one side is longer than the other so therefore the exhaust tips are going to be uneven. Ive never heard of this before. Can this be true or did the installer screw up something?

Installer screwed up. You just need to have it adjusted. When I first did mine it was like that. All I had to do was undo the tip and slide it back some more and lined up perfect.
I would take it back and have them fix it.

I may be wrong, but borla tips don't adjust correct?

If this is the case, the adjustment would have to be made at the mid pipe. You should be able to slide the catback into the midpipe a few inches on that side, to even it out.

Good luck.

Yeah, the tips are welded on on the regular borla cat back so i cant move those around. And the magnaflow x pipe has these flanges on the ends where it bolts on to the headers and where the cat back bolts on to the x pipe, so i cant really adjust the midpipe and push anything on any farther. I wonder if you can just twist or move around the cat back on that one side would make up some extra inches and line up.

It's all in the tech who did it, honestly. When, and especially, installing a X/H pipe, mid-pipe period, it kinda needs to almost be stretched, hard to explain, but, ya cant just tighten and fasten each corner as you like, so, an experienced and good exhaust guy will get it perfect, whereas a jerk off will mess it up and have it off by as much as 3 full inches, and the websites for these companies(exhaust/parts etc etc...) even warn about it.

Mine is absolutely perfect, to within 1/8 of an inch. But I was a complete whore about it, I asked them to let me in the garage to watch(said I wanted to learn) and I observed and to make sure he did it right, I was constantly asking questions, that would, in a sense, keep his mind on, getting it how I want it, I kind of dictated what he was doing. However he was a very skilled individual, genius exhaust guy.

However, I've bottomed out a few times since having it on, about 4 months now, and so, my driver side tailpipe/tip, sits about a half of an inch lower than the passenger side. Of course nobody notices but me, but, it annoys me, so I'm going to get under and bend it back up, gently, correctly, without breaking a weld etc etc.

You will probably have to adjust the mid pipe, because, most kits, especially magnaflow, borla, mac, come perfect fit, you just have to follow the rules, once you get it up under the car, and loosely just hanging there, you gotta tighten it slowly, and not all at once per corner etc etc. Hope I made some sense to you, but I'm probably right. Plz don't take that as an egotistical comment, I just went through a lot of this crap back in my 5.0 days.

As much as people think of exhaust as just, simple, plain out, "exhaust", it's a bit more to it than that. It takes a bit of finess. If the tech doesn't care, it will look like crap every time. Some are so stupid, they actually touch your crome tips that come with it, with their greasy as hands, and as soon as you run the car, and it gets hot, it'll never come off, permanently ruined....

Be careful, ask questions. Even the best shops hire idiots, it's happened to me.

GL tho, peace.

There are adjustable tubes behind the midpipe and in front of the mufflers - that's where the adjustment is made. These pipes can be adjusted to length...to a point. I'd suggest taking it back and 'splaining this to them. Blaming the midpipe? Guy's a idiot. So, if it were me, I'd crawl underneath and do it myself. Loosen it all up, get some good gloves on, and prepare to tug, pull, yank and crank...but you'll get it right.

PS - do you have the instructions? I've still got my copy, which includes a full page 'exploded' view of the pieces...it's the front two flanged pieces (that bolt to the midpipe) that can slide forward or backward a couple of inches to adjust. If the guy simply slapped these in and tighten it up, he screwed up.
Let me know if you want a copy of these instructions...I can email 'em to you.

Yeah, that was exactly what I was trying to get at. There should be those pieces that can slide in and out of the midpipe for a little bit of adjustment.
