How do Stingers compare to XR-1 race mufflers? Any of you guys heard both to know the difference in sound level? They look similar, but I dont know the difference in flow... I started looking around for a different exhaust setup, cause my H pipe is rusty and ticking (Dan's side exit is tempting), but I dont want it to be like running straight pipes. Its not going to be my daily driver much longer thanks to a promotion I finally received, but I still dont want it to be overwhelming. I do want a nice compact muffler, because I am really tempted to try a side exit design. Ive never really liked tails on our cars for some reason. Anyone have any input on the subject?

No, Im talkin XR-1 muffler. I dont think its an S-type, but I guess I could be wrong. Those stinger catbacks for new edge stangs are expensive as hell! The XR-1 Race mufflers go for around $100 each (a little more affordable). Then I would just have a local muffler shop fab up the piping for me. The stingers just seem to be about the same size, so I assumed they would sound similar. The only vids I can find on Youtube are 03-04 cobras, which obviously have a very different sound then our 5.0.

when i contacted Borla about purchasing JUST the mufflers used in the Borla Stinger catback, they told me that the S-Type muffler was the univeral of the stinger... id assume the xr-1s are retardedly loud... ive found that jegs has a decent pricing on either... but again, if youre lookin for true stingers, s type is the way to go i believe turbogt also picked those up as well, i believe he was told the same from borla.. thats the route ill be going

s type
xr1 mufflers

Borla All the way. I have the xr-1 oval cat-back, $750!!! but its worth every cent. You can tell its my car from any other car, and its not extreamly loud. Not raspy, and no drone. The stinger kit doesnt sound as clean, and is A LOT louder.
Go with the xr-1 ovals.

Really? i thought the xr-1 mufflers were straight race oriented mufflers and would be louder? have you had them side by side? how are you comparing them?

I too am curious about a comparison, because I can see both sides of the arguement. I would like to hear your XR-1 setup birel21y if you can make a short vid for me. I seriously want to change my setup soon and cant decide which model is the sound Im looking for. Youtube is my only resource so far for sound clips.

Thanks infiniti, Ive seen that before but the sound quality isnt that great. I thought maybe he had a better vid out there somewhere. That at least gives me an idea though. They dont seem too incredibly loud, so thats a plus.

YouTube - burnout/1st,2nd gear pull

this is mine (old car) with a set of XR-1s on it. I had mac longtubes and a bbk catted H on it.

I'd definitely go with the XR-1s....of course I might be a bit biased

that's the old 306. I have one of the 331 too

YouTube - 331 quick rev

The borlas had no drone, were pretty quite below 3000 rpm, and sound good...not to mention they opened up once you got past 3 grand

from what I've heard I'd have to say the xr1s are quieter....but I've never heard stingers on a 5.0 though lol
