Bought an 88 LX 5.0 (pics)

i understand it's a project, i have one of my own. i was talking about the fact that you spent $1,600 fricken dollars on it. it's not me but if it was, i MIGHT have given $250 for it considering you could part it out and make that back. :D

well then please tell me where the hell your buying foxes because i'd love to drive down there and see what i can get for $2500.

Plastic window FTMFL

Get a glass one.

I think you could have done better for $1600 considering all the rust and the rust hole that no doubt has more rust deeper within it. But whatever, if your happy I guess thats all that matters. Just don't sell it after a few months like you seem to do more often then not.

nah...ill leave it how it is...no use in spending more money on something that is new..platic will be fine....its new so i will be able to see out of it.

My sister had a plastic window on her 93, after a few months it literally looked like complete crap, in fact it looked like crap to begin with. Don't cheap out on this, or you'll end up with crap that you'll have to spend more money on later, why do it twice?

this came with the car and what is going in it...i cant afford to start buying little things like that when i already have it....down the road maybe ill buy a glass window and zip that in but not right now....

so much do you guys want to guess it will cost me to get this thing painted???

place your bets ladies and gents.

Hey Ryan, you did real well! You know what is out there for sale, the prices they want, and what they actually get for their "beautiful" cars. An unmolested 5.0 is getting scarce, and you can fix whatever your new LX needs, and make money at the same time. You'll run into a thousand guys that coulda got a better deal, and what they have is what you'll find in the want ads for only about 5 times what they're worth. Main thing is, if you think you did good, you did. And if you wanna sell that vert, hit me with a pm, and I'll find it a good home(just don't tell my wife)!

Ok man, but I reserve the right to say I told you so later. Good luck with it.

you must be new to the fox bodys and not undertstand that....there not as cheap as they once were... in the past 2 years prices have shot way up in my area...

well with that attitude you will never get a 5.0 for that price.. maybe a engine but not a whole car...

i have done my fair share of reading and i have researched plenty on what usually goes for what. the guy you bought this off of probably had people telling him that he wont be able to get 1600(like i'm telling my friend of mine that has a roach '88 GT that he wants 1700 for), i guess it all depends on whether or not he could find the right buyer and he did. i dont know what prices have shot up to in your area but i do know how low i'm willing to go and i already said i might have given $250 for that, really depends on how the motor runs on good gas. i just say good luck, do a fine job with bondo, and have fun.:flag:

i plan to...if the motor ends up having to be pulled then the more fun i will have with it...the more i learn now means the more i save down the road.

I paid $1200 for my first Mustang, an '88 GT one owner:

I had the same car, except it was a vert and without the red lettering on the ground effects. Even had the huge Mustang emblems on the side....I still have those too lol.

Back on track, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Rust is always 10x harder to fix than it looks. Keep us updated on how the car transforms!

yeah it looks like allot of work. i praise you here:

- regatta blue :D
- the price. i was looking at 4 banger auto verts that were north of 3 grand. thats how scarce foxes are in my area...to me that looks like a steal. perhaps you could find a better chassis that has no motor or trans in it and swap motor and trans into the better chassis. that rust looks pretty bad in some places.
-regatta blue annndd a white top (absolute sexxx)

i dont so much praise you here:

- im more of a go fast guy, while a vert would be sick, i can do with a roof and less weight, less junk to break ect.
- like most other people are saying you could held onto whatever car you owned before and saved money while earning dads respect THENN splurged and gotten a rust free (hatch or coupe in my opinion) that was rust free and in good shape (and had another pedal....
-auto. i am a supporter of shift kits and high horsepower auto mustangs. they can be fun. its just hat your gonna need more whoop ass sitting between your struts in order to make it fun down the road.

now like all other kids that i know under the age of 20, your gonna reply and tell me why im wrong, ect... just keep in mind that i think you made a good decision. i talked my dad into getting me a 5oh and its been worth it over here. i just understand how much work that things gonna need.

oh yeah and if you dont mind me asking. whats that in your garage?

885-13.webp

that GT in the garage is the SELLER'S car, not any of ryans family. It looks nice...i love that color...like i said you shoulda gotten that one :p

How much to repaint - well to do it right, you are looking at an easy $5000. Of course, you could just take it to Maaco. To do my Mustang GT I am getting quotes all in the $5000 - and mine doesn't have a single spot of rust. With the rust on it, you will have to strip the car down to bare metal to see what is good and what's bad. Almost certainly it will be a lot worse than it looks underneath the paint. Good luck in having it done in 6 months. I think you overpaid for it given the shape of the body - no rust I think you would have a fair deal, but that rust is a killer. Good luck with it. Gonna need it :)

I cant stand alot of people on here are saying that its going to be rusty underside. It sat on pavement for a few years, big deal. All that body rust can be fixed.

The kid finally got a 5.0 car, a while back he was having a tough time having his father allow him to get a 5.0. Who cares if its a little rough around the edges. Its his first sensible car that he has got and he likes it. As a body man I'd have to say that rust on his car is nothing.

I have a decent amount of rust (frame rail/shock tower, quarters, floor has a hole) on my car that someone else would probably sell the car because of. Well, its only metal work and its my first and probably ONLY 5.0 I will ever have and I want to keep it that way. My cars chassis has 240000 NEW JERSEY miles.

IMO a well restored car is WAY more impressive than a clean low mileage car, Have fun with this one Ryan, first thing I would recommend doing is takin the rear, gas tank, and the exhaust out and wire wheel the underside of her and coat it with some POR15. Then move onto restoring the body. Good luck with her. What are your performance plans?
