Boy those stock clutch fans aren't very robust are they?

I bought a stock replacement plastic clutch fan for my 91 in the summer of 08 because the original one was pretty cracked up. Less then 6K miles later the one I bought looks just as bad. Even so far as having a crack all the way though from front to back. :notnice:
 
Yea I literally just picked up a taurus 3.8 fan today from a junkyard for 20 bucks. I am pretty excited to get it installed and really clean up the front of the engine. I am going to be using a thermostatic switch you can get from advance auto parts. I had to install one on my daily driver escort because of relays that are discontinued and it works without a problem. The switch wouldn't be enough to handle a dual contour fan setup without upgrading the relay, but I think it should hold up just fine with the single taurus fan. I was going to pull a contour fan setup out but opted for the taurus fan for ease of installation, plus junkyards will charge you double for the dual fan setup.

Hey mustang5l5 can you give me a write up on how to wire up the bosch relay using that controller, just which wire goes to which pin, I've never wired up a relay before. I would greatly appreciate it, I was looking for a temp switch that I could put in the water neck and not have to butcher the radiator.

Sure. It's not that hard. The controller is only rated for 30a, so I just made the wire that is supposed to power the fan be the wire that closes the relay on the 75a relay.

If I get some free time at work I'll draw up a diagram
 
Thanks a lot I appreciate it but I guess I shooulda just done a google search haha but I didnt think it was this is. I found this on another forum, I am guessing 87 will just be the power wire off the motor, and 86 is a switched power source, correct?

The controller works by switching the ground leg of the fan. Since I used the Bosch 75A relay to power the fan, i ran power from batt, through fuse and to pin 30 on the relay. Then pin 87 went to the hot side of the fan. I grounded the other side to the chassis.

Pin 86 I connected to ACC Hot 12V+...i think i used the low coolant sensor wire. Pin 85 went to the controller since it switches the ground leg. So when controller turns fan on, it grounds the 75A relay and sends power to the fan.

The controller also has a 12V+ manual override wire you either splice a switch into, or hook up to the a/c wiring.

On anywhere from 150-210 degree...with shut off 10 degrees under turn on.

Hey Mike, when you say 85 pin goes to the controller, do you mean the ground wire from the controller? Do you just ground them to the same spot? Or do you just connect them? You would still have to attach those wires to metal correct? I just want to make sure im not confused.

Well, there are two grounds on the controller. One grounds the entire unit and the other is a switched negative that controls the fan. When i say connect pin 85 to the controller, i mean to the switched negative wire. The controller connects it to ground via the other ground wire.

Ah gotcha, my controller only has one ground wire I guess thats where I got confused. But if you could send me the PDF that would be cool. Just send it to [email protected]. I am going to get that same switch you posted, I love how it has the water outlet sensor.
