My son and I are redoing a 84 ragtop. Engine is out and engine bay redone. Am currently working on switching from 4 lug to 5 lug. I am planning on using a 94-98 gt rear with discs. Am using sn 95 spindles(94) and trying to decide what calipers to use. I want to go with 99+ pbr twin piston calipers. My ? is will they work with the 94 spindles or will I have to use 96 or newer spindles. Also I am concerned that we might need to swap boosters. I have 1 from a 95 but there is no way its going to fit. Even if I elongate the inside holes it is still not going to clear the shock tower. Has anyone had a similar project and if so what were your solutions.

Thanks Jeff

Sorry, I can't help you out more here....
I have always used the 94-95 calipers.
Try calling the guys at Stainless Steel Brakes or
Steeda. I am sure they could answer your questions.

Good Luck. Post Back on how it turns out.

First off, a good place to look is http://svo73mm.cjb.net.

The 99+ PBRs will fit fine, you just need to do some grinding on the spindles so they will have the room to move. Matt90GT's website above has the info on that.

I'm running the 99+ PBRs on 95 spindles with a 94 MC and the stock 87 booster and my brake feel great. I'm also running the Mark VII / SVO rear brakes. Maybe the 87-93 booster would be an easier fit.

Joe, Stangplus2birds, put the M2300K kit in his 86.....I believe he had to alter the shock tower with a BFH to fit the booster. Here is a link to his tech website with a lot of conversion links:

Good luck!

You don't have to alter anything on the shock towers. It's a common myth. I have done quite a lot of research on this topic, as my brother put a 98 v6 booster into his 88 coupe. He just elongated the holes, and it slid in. Keep in mind, that after elongating the holes, it still hit the tower a little, and he had to kind of push and snap it into place, but it did go right in with minimal effort once the holes were elongated properly.

Many people said that it would not fit into a pre 86 car with bashing the shock tower. I did not believe that, and went out on a mission to figure out why. I had my father, who is an aerospace engineer measure the entire area around the firewall and shock tower area, then compare them between my brothers 88, his 86, and my 86.

The end result was that their was absolutely no difference. I posted this up on the net where I had threads going (on the corral and four eyed pride) and slowly people began to come out of the woodwork how they have fit the sn95 booster into their fox without bashing the shock tower.

Take your time, and do it right, bashing the shock tower will only weaken the towers on your car and can alter suspension geometry. Within weeks, I should have a template of where to elongate the holes on the firewall, as I am about to do this on my 86 gt.

The difference was night and day. With the upgrades you have planned, the booster is a must

I have the 94 model spindles, 99 PBR calipers and a 94 model rear disc rearend, 94 model master cylinder and a 93 cobra booster, all i can say is I LOVE MY BRAKES, i cant imagine driving without anything less now, I truly realize how much the fox body brakes suck! Good luck with your project, go with the 99PBR calipers, and refer to matt's site it is A++++++++++++++

Install at least the 99+ GT PBR calipers.

FYI on the brake booster, the bolt spacing is different on the sn95 boosters than the 79-93 fox cars! Also the Sn95 use a smaller metric stud vs the previous SAE threaded beast.

Since the bolt spacing is different, that is why you need to elongate the holes in the strut tower (the Sn95 has a taller bolt pattern).
