Brake calipers, NEED HELP asap!

Okay I am changing the brakes on the rear and the left caliper is leaking. I am guess it time for a new one? The middle part that pushs on the brake pads in sticking all the way out. How can I releif the pressure so I can push it back. I can't get it over the pads the way it is. Would this make it leak? Or is it time for a new one. Thanks guys!

From where is it leaking? It could be a loose banjo bolt, a worn out crush ring, or just extra fluid that came from elsewhere.

As far as the leaking, find out where the source is before figuring you need to replace it.

a brake caliper adjuster tool must be used to seat the rear caliper piston. when you get this tool align nibs on tool with slots in piston and rotate clockwise until piston seats alot of times this is difficult you may need to push in and rotate at same time .

All you should need is a c-clamp to force the piston back into the caliper, there is no need to relieve any pressure.

My mistake! I didn't see where you said REAR caliper.

Bill is right. That tool is only 10 bucks or so at the parts store, and is a worthwhile investment. Just tell 'em you need a rear caliper tool. It's like a 3D box design with little nibs all around it so it can fit all sorts of applications. After that, put the caliper in a vice and attach the tool to a ratchet, then push/twist to get it back in place.

the rear caliper is different, it's a dial that turns clockwise to go back into place.

Would this make it leak?

possible,seal on piston itself may be bad. check as mansonozz said check banjo bolt and copper washer. determine where leak is coming from and post.

if you determine a new caliper is needed they need to be replaced in pairs(left& right rear) it's alot cheaper to rebuild calipers. parts stores sell rebuild kits and chilton manuals will help with rebuild it is'nt difficult.
$37.99 per caliper /with lifetime warranty or $7.99 per caliper to rebuild no lifetime warranty you decide ?

Parts stores also offer them cheaper if you trade in your core. Probably cost less than $20 out of pocket.

don't get the square box universal type i have had problems getting this one to fit properly, buy the one specifically for a stang caliper. ford tool T87P-2588-A or equivalent.

I thought he was talking about the front too. Yea the square tool is a pita. Go to Autozone and they have a loaner tool for like a $20 deposit that is just what you need, you'll get all your deposit back when you return it.
