First off I am not a very good mechanic so excuse my terminology. I am changing out the back brakes on my 96 mustang gt along with the rotors. I was almost finished when I came across a problem.

My caliper will not go back on because the "piston" on the caliper is not retracted all the way. I tried taking a pair of needle nose pliers and screwing it back in. I also tried using a C-clamp to push it back in. Neither were successful. Anyone have any advice?

Get the right tool for this. Buy it at Harbor Freight for $40 or borrow it at AutoZone for a deposit of $40.

Yea...you have to compress and turn the caliper at the same time...kind of a pain in the ass but thats what it takes.

Take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir to help relieve the pressure when you are pushing it back in.. otherwise, you're fighting the brake fluid pressure (not easy.)

Thanks for the help guys. I found a tool in my dads tool box that was a small cubed shaped socket. It had a bunch of different kinds of keys for different types of calipers. I did take the cap off the reservoir, and it helped a bunch.
