Brake light issue

So I just got a new brake light switch along with a rebuilt brake booster. The pedal now travels all but about 2" from the hitting the floor until it even starts to brake. And the light switch wont come on unless I am slamming the brakes. Can either of these be adjusted cause its really pissing me off and its pretty dangerous.

Ok so that sounds like what I need. I've tried adjusting it but to no avail. It seems that I have acctually made it worse, but before I bend those little tabs clean off, I wanted to clear up what exactly I'm supposed to do. According to your picture, I have bent the outer tabs up, so that the whole piece is a very flat "U" shape. Is that the right direction, cause it doesn't seem to be helping. Thanks for being so helpful!

Separate issues. You M/C and booster are screwed up. Either the M/C has air in it, or the internals are bad, or the booster is not assembled properly. Have you checked the headspace between the booster and M/C? This is a critical dimension.

The 2" from the floor thing is very dangerous, it should not go that far down, period. Fix that, I bet the switch will be working fine.

When I first bought my 67, I had the same issue with the brake lights. One day I was driving back from Knott's Berry Farm after a day at the all Ford thing and a guy pulls up to me and tells me my brake lights aren't working correctly. I responded that yes, I am aware of that. He then tells me there are two different brake light switches, one for non power brakes and one for power brakes. Apparently I had the switch for non power brakes on a power brake setup.

A simple swap, and shazam, brakes lights at the touch of the pedal! Gotta love fellow gearheads. :nice:
