Brake Lights Not Working

Looking for some help with my brake lights. Rebuilt/replaced all the parts on my rear drums. I'm sure this is just coincidence but my brake lights stopped working the same day. I understand that the switch is attached to the pedal. The switch looks fine(not that it means much), bulbs are good and so are the fuses. Any ideas on why they would stop working? Thanks for the input. :bang:

there are 2 wires on the brake switch, one should be hot from the fuse all the time, the other should get hot when you push the pedal, if it doesn't the switch is bad.

IF the switch works, make sure your getting voltage to the lights, and check the rear grounds.

PS; you should own a test light, the type without a built in battery, if you don't, go to the parts store and buy one, they are cheap, and priceless on electrical problems.

Do you have the correct brake switch? While driving back from the Fabulous Fords at Knott's Berry Farm last year, a guy pulled up next to me at a stop light and said my brake lights weren't working on my 67 coupe and told me there were two different switches, one for manual brakes and one for power brakes, he was right. Bought the one for power brakes and now they light up with a light touch of the pedal instead of only coming on when you mash down on the pedal.

If you were under the dash for some reason, could you have accidently knocked the plug off of the switch?

Going to dig into the mess today. Bought a new stoplight switch, figured even if it was good it's been in there for 36 years and could use some time off. The switch was connected and I need to put my meter on the switch to rule that out. Thanks for the input.

I think there is a green and a black wire on the brake light switch on the pedal. Which one is suppose to be hot all the time?

You should also make sure that ALL of the bulbs in your entire lighting/turn signal system are good and not blown.

Green/red is hot from the fuse. The other wire to the lights is Green
