when i bought the 88 the brake lights were always on like someone was holding the peddle down...easy fix i thought...replace the brake light switch and be good to go...well its not so good and not ready to go...no the brake lights are off...but when i press the brake peddle down nonthing happens.

...the only way i can get them to work is if i pull the contact away from the switch then they will come on...if i try and press the brake peddle down for them to work and i get nonthing ive checked and the switch is hooked up right.....i dont know what is causing this but it sure is aggravating...any ideas? bad connector?

If you can make it work manually (with your hand) but not with the pedal, it's still an adjustment issue.

Good luck.

I've done a few (last one was a GM) so I might have my 'wires' crossed. You normally just push the switch (some screw in and out) until the button is almost touching the pedal arm. Have a friend check - you want the lights to come on pretty quick once you start to step on the pedal. Mine are literally hair triggers.

Don't know of any adjustments. Just have to make sure it is installed correctly.

Do you have hazzards? Does the 3rd brake light work? Did you check the fuse?
