Brake line cut

Well I installed my flowmaster cat back system. It puts my series 40s to shame, and I can notice a good increase in power. Now for the bad news. While I was cutting off the stock tail pipes, the brake line is convinently located right above the pipes, and you can guess the rest. I took it to the Ford dealership and they said it was going to be $200 parts and about $250 labor. They said the brake line is all one piece so they have to replace everything. Is this true? Even while I was installing my system it looked like the lines were in sections. Is the dealership trying to rip me off? Or am I just screwed. :damnit:

where is the line did you cut it? Was it the line leading to your calipers?? If so you can buy them cheap and put them on yourself. They are ripping you off.

yea, it was right above were the exits to the mufflers are, it lead to the caliper. It looked like it was only a 2-3ft section that went from the caliper to a thicker piece to hose that looked like it joined two sections together. Where would I find the proper lining? Just any car parts store?

Brake Line

Is this the aprox 1/8" rubber covered metal line comming from the front of the car that attaches to the flex line that attaches to the caliper?? If it is, it IS a one piece line. I had a similar problem that I solved cheaply. If it is the small metal line, let me know and I might be able to help you out. If it is simply the flex line, as droptopsnake says, you can replace that yourself.

Yeah man your being jacked by your dealer, you can probs fix it yourself or if your not comfortable enough doing it, take it into a break shop and they'll definitly give you a better price.

no its not a metal line, its plastic. Ill take it to a mechanic and get a second opinion.

yes they are ripping you off! When I had a '97 GT I hit a pot hole pretty hard and knocked my exhaust into my brake line and broke it. I took it to a brake shop and they fabbed up a new section and put everything back together in an hour...$60 for the labor and $10 for the part
