Brake rotor replacement

First time on this forum so please bear with me regarding my technique. I need to replace my rotors (1996 Cobra) and came across a set from "Gripforce". Does any one have any experience with this product? They list a set that are allegedly comparable to the Brembo cross drilled and slotted units, but at about half the price.

Doesn't sound like any brand I've ever heard. I'd stay away from drilled rotors also, they tend to crack and warp a lot easier than non-drilled ones.

I'd just stick with the OEM Brembo replacements and some Hawk HPS pads from Tirerack...

yeah brembo oem rotors, and hps pads. works great on my setup, still waiting on ss lines, but for the price, tire rack is the cheapest, only problem with the oem rotors is that they aren't finished, so they will rust. tape and some high temp paint will cure that though. unless you aren't afraid of some unknown company, stopping your car, I'd check out tire rack. good luck

I've been running cross drilled and slotted rotors on my 93 for five years and over 40,000 miles without any ill effects and significantly improved braking performance on the notoriously underbraked Foxbody. I also put Powerstop cross drilled rotors front and back on the Cobra primarily for cosmetic purposes two years ago. No cracking or any of the other problems that non-owners always warn of.

I've had front/rear cross-drilled/sloted rotors and pads from baer on my 01 Cobra since 01. No issues 34,000 miles later.


allandwysmuller, if i were you, spend the money on good brakes. Never be cheap on brakes....

As a technician, I've seen plenty of drilled rotors with heat cracks @ the drilled holes. It's not a certainty that every drilled rotor will develop these cracks, but it's more likely than with a non-drilled rotor. I haven't seen any increase in warped rotors when they're drilled &/or slotted.

I've used the Powerslot rotors on previous Mustangs with success; in fact, they kept the pads I was using (Performance Friction) on my '90 LX quieter than the exact same pad on my '91 LX but with stock rotors.

The stock Cobra brake system is very good, & OE replacements are just fine. Every penny spent improving their performance, though, is always a good use of money in my book.

I'd go with a good quality pad (Hawk, PFC, etc) & the Brembo replacement rotors. If you want the looks from drilled &/or slotted rotors, go for it. Just don't buy some no-name Chinese import, & you should be fine.
