Brake swap using the Lincoln Versialles brakes?

I picked up a set of disc brakes from a 79 lincoln Versailles. I just read that the lower ball joint tapper on the spindle is larger than my 68's and that I need to use the ball from the Versailles?! Can anyone confirm this? What do I do to resolve the issue if that is the case. D. Hearne, if you are out there... can you help me with the "problem" if there is indeed is a problem? Anyone, an assist here is much appreciated. :hail2:

Yes, the ball joint on the Versaiiles was larger so you have to either use a tapered spacer or see if you can get a Versailles lower ball joint to fit into the Mustang lower control arn....I do not think the lower control arms are interchangeable but I have no info on this.

Hey Converted, sorry to hear about the additional headaches. I know we talked about this before and I found my source of info on the Mustang Plus website under Tech.

2) Lincoln Versailles spindles are not a direct bolt on like the Granada and Monarch units.
Although all of the other parts such as rotors and calipers are the same, the Versailles spindles have a larger hole for the lower control arm ball joint. This hole either has to be filled and then re-drilled to the correct size and correct tapper for the smaller diameter ball joint or you have to adapt the Versailles lower ball joint to the Mustang lower control arm. Both of these options are doable, but can cost a lot more money than just using Granada or Monarch spindles to begin with

Thanks Dude! How is the new career going? We need to get together for some beers. I just ordered the lower ball joint adapters from Mustang Steve, ($46). Should work great. By the way where did you get the fittings to convert the powersteering from early model to late> Also, just got the fenders, splurged and did the original tooling. Virtually perfect fit after I drop the doors about an 1/8 of an inch. Decided to keep the original hood but still use the Cobra Automotive front end. I just love the look. I will call you next week.
