brakes squeal/chirp when I let off the brakes? Any ideas?

Hello,
I have a strange brake noise.

When I am applying my brakes, everything is ok.

When I let off the brakes, I get a very brief squeal (more like a quick chirp)
when the brakes are releasing.

The pads, rotors, and shoes are all new from Midas (well mileage wise
there is about 3k on them but this was 3 years ago. The drums
were turned when all this was done.

Any ideas about this?

Is the squealing noise from the pedal itself or from the front/rear?

Mine does the same thing. It sounds like it is from the rear. I have no idea what is causing it.

First, find the actual location of the squeek.

Wild guess but I it could be a sticking caliper slide. Cracked pads or poor machining of the rotors are another cause of squeek. Also check the wear indicators on the pads, sometimes they are too long and hit things.

I'm assuming you have drum brakes on the rear? I do and mine does the same thing, its the shoe rubbing against the inside housing (not sure of the correct term) of the assembly. If you take off the drum and look at the top inboard edge of the shoes, you'll see a wear spot where its rubbing. You can try a little lube but it'll wear off quickly and the chirp will return.

Anyone have any adjustment suggestions?

DT is correct. A little lip off the shoes contact the back plate, I used a little axle grease on both sides and never had the problem again. But then again about a year later I converted to rear disc. and that permanently solved the problem.
