brand new tranny howling

the new tranny only has like 400 miles on it and its howling.. its only sometimes, only under acceleration, and if i let of the gas or push the clutch back in it stops.. i dont know to much about trannys so what does this mean guys?

Mine howled like a banchee when it was new (I'm guessing because of the Kevlar synchros). It still whines a bit but did get quieter as time went by. 400 miles does sound like a decent break in period. Still, treat it nice for a while and see if it begins to quiet over time.

also, one could call the vendor or supplier and ask if that is normal (kind of a CYA thing to do). if it ends up being something else down the line and they ask how long it has been doing it, they might not like to hear you kept driving it.

I had a howl when I put a used driveshaft that wasnt balanced!!Correctly anyway???

i called the supplier today and they said that i can take it to a shop to get it checked out and they will pay for all parts and labor.. but i still want to know what could be wrong with it.. TOB? miss aligned gears? what could it be?

What did you add for fluid? I hope you used dextron/mercon ATF, and not gear oil..........

It could be a number of things, including throw out bearing, incorrectly cut gear teeth, bent shafts, etc.

Let us know what the mechanic finds out.
