Arco has a sticker on the pumps saying that it contains Alcohol. They used to say 10%, now I’m not sure what they say. I’m assuming that it’s still the same.

If you ran a car on Alcohol you have to run roughly double the amount compared to gas because it has so much less energy per gallon. So if its 10% then you loose ½ or 5% energy per gallon.

When I did a freeway commute 3 yrs ago for my job I put on 150mi a day all freeway with no traffic. I checked my mileage using Arco and Chevron and I would get 2 mpg LESS with Arco. This is on a 35mpg commuter car. So I’m no scientist but 5% of 35 is 1.75 which is very close to my 2 mpg. I also did this with 4 or 5 tanks of Arco not just 1.

I know Techron does a good job of keeping things clean so that’s the pump gas I run in the Saleen. If you pay 7 cents more per gallon it’s about a $1 per tank. Go into Schucks and price a bottle of Techron It’s like $4. So why not just buy it at the station?

And say you get 5% less mileage with Arco but saved 7 or 8 cents per gallon. Well 5% of $2.80 is 14 cents ……so it’s cheaper to run a better gas and get more mpg and pay a little more than to pay less and use more gas!

This is my opinion and what I have experienced….I’m sure a lot of you won’t agree but hey that’s O.K.!!!

I forgot to add if you use your Debit card like I do, half of your savings at Arco is gone because they charge you a fee to use your card. So you really save about 50 cents a tank vs. Chevron!

youre right. 10% ethanol.

its ALL the same base stock. the additives are different.

as for the E10...im pretty sure its federally required for gas to be 10% ethanol now.

Heres something I found thats 2 years old. I do remember when they sold 10% Alcohol gas in the winter here in the Puget sound. As far as I know and this article even states they don't anymore. Only Arco does a s far as I know. When they sold it here they always put stickers on the pump and took them off in the spring when they switched back.
They also state below that you don't have a choice if you live in a mandated area.
If you live anywhere else the blended gas is normally not available.

"Use of oxygenated gasoline was mandated by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 in areas with unhealthy levels of carbon monoxide. The primary oxygenates were ethanol and MTBE. The demand for ethanol has been increasing, as MTBE has been shown to contaminate ground water supplies. In Washington State, oxygenated gasoline is sold during the winter in areas that do not meet the federal carbon monoxide standard under the Clean Air Act. In past years, these areas were central Puget Sound and Spokane and Clark counties. The oxygenated gasoline program has been phased out in central Puget Sound and Clark County due to air quality improvements in those areas.

While low-percentage ethanol blends are sold in every state and are available in Washington, consumers typically do not have a choice between E10 and 100% gasoline. In areas where oxygenated gasoline is mandated and E10 is used to meet that mandate, the ethanol blend makes up nearly 100% of the gasoline sold. And the blend is typically not available in areas where the mandate does not apply."

What do you have for motor mods? If you dont have a high compression piston in there, you are wasting your money and may actually be hurting performance. I run 40% premium, 60% VP C12, but I have a CP (Wicked) 13.5:1 piston. And Im assuming you are using a leaded fuel, correct?

actually I'm not, I thought there same thing at first as well but theres a nice sop increase with the race gas in there, my friends yfz actually pinged pretty bad from the factory without race gas mixed in since the stock comp is so high. either way, I like the smell as of right now I just have bolt ons, k&n intake with the lid removed, dubach racing full exaust and a rejet. I plan on running the wicked piston here in the near future and I may send the head out and have it ported.

When you rebuild the motor, put the crank from the WR in there as well. I just finished my WR/Wicked rebuild 2 rides ago. Raced Woodland and rode Washougal on saturday, my goodness does it pull hard! Dont forget about the oil mod if you have the cases apart. Main bearings ought to be replaced as well. You should also send your carb to get bored, Ive heard great things about having it bored, just make sure you do the headwork last so it can be done to match the carb bore. My carb is going out at the end of the month.

*EDIT, I saw you have an 06, so you wont benefit a whole lot if you use the WR crank, youll save some weight, (quite a bit for an internal part), my bike revs pretty fast now. The WR crank wont be put at quite the angle the 06 encounters because the WR crank/piston mounts higher on the piston. You must use a WR piston.

Howd you hear about the Wicked piston? I may just be repeating everywhere depending on where you get your info from.

I'm a member on yfztech and a few other yfz sites I also found that the new 07's come with the oil mod done allready and you can buy all the parts and they bolt on to the older motors rather than having it machined... it is more spendy though, have you heard much about the edelbrock carbs? I have a friend with an 06 and the same mods that I have plus the eddy carb and his seems to run a hell of alot smoother than mine. I think its a 40mm vrs a 38 or 39 on the stock bikes

I see, Im 4thStroke over on tech and central. I wouldnt buy a whole new carb., a lot of people stick with the FCR39 and bore it out. PM sredrum on tech, $115 for a bore job.

The oil mod is very easy to do. I did mine with a 18 volt cordless drill. The toughest part was finding a 1/32 drill bit. I just drilled the whole, no jet.

Up north at the Costco in Burlington I asked the guy filling it up in a reinhart? petroleum truck. He said that it was Tesoro I asked what Safeway was and he said it was Tesoro also.

I used to drive 140 miles a day for work.. I tried all the gasolines out there.. Shell, Chevron, ARCO etc.. the best fuel economy I would get was from Chevron, worst was ARCO.. Even though ARCO was much cheaper, in the long run it didn't save money, because I was getting 4 to 5 mpg less with it than Chevron.. Shell was 1 to 2 mpg less than Chevron..

I try and put Chevron in my vehicles now..

i used to trust 76 until they had tainted fuel few yrs back from the refinery up north in lynden or anacortes. ended up the station i fill at had a tainted batch, so 76 paid for the dealership to do a fuel syst flush. i run arco on my dd and chevron on the stang.
