I have a A9l computer to run my new engine. My question is will the computer make the engine surge while it learning all the parts? I am concerned about breaking the cam in with a motor running erratic or will it run smooth. Thanks
I hate breaking in cams. But I am sure I dont hate it near as much as my neighbors do . mmmm 365 ci motor with open 3/4" hooker long tubes and no exhaust running at 2500 RPM for 20 minutes straight. I bet they loved me for it.
Yes it will fire right up, run decent then start learning the setup. Where it's not going to learn and you need to be carefull is under WOT because the O2 sensors are not adjusting a/f during this and a 347 will definitely be running lean. When I broke my 331 in I used stock A9L program then starting tuning it with EEC tuner. You will need either a chip or some form computer tuning for that motor.
That is good to know. Do you have to have chips custom burnt at a shope or can you call some place and tell them your setup? I don't know of many "speed shops" around me. (Northeast Indiana)
Look for shop that tunes the car on a dyno, I'm not familiar with that area but I'm sure there are some that can. Do not get a mail order chip. Personally I would look into buying something like a TwEECer and learning how to tune it yourself so if you make any changes you can adjust the tune rather spending $$ to have a new chip burnt.
