How can it be considered a comeback if he didn't miss a season?

Because he "retired" and they've already set everything up for Rodgers and the post-Favre era.

Eh - technicality. It's like me saying I am retiring from my job tonight and came back the next morning. He hasn't missed a day of work yet.

Actually, he has "missed a day of work" since OTA's and mandatory mini camps have already been over with.. all they have now is training camp.

Not really.

Why was he discussing a return with the coach and texting teammates saying he wants to return? Why was he discussing options with his contract and calling around to other teams to see if anyone had any interest?

I won't buy his non-return until opening day and he's not in a uniform.

Washed up?! Are you out of your freaking mind?!.. He took that team to the NFC Championship game and took them to a 13-3 season. The guy is still good.

Elvis Grbac took the Chiefs to a 13-3 record in 1997, the division title, and a first round bye, and a divisional loss to the Broncos. BFD.

Brett Favre is past his time, he needs to let it go and walk away.

Bret can still be productive and despite his age still plays better then a lot of the younger QB's in the league.

I just think when you say its over it should be over. These players that leave and come back do nothing but tarnish what they have accomplished in the past. Jordon retired and came back along w/ Jerry Rice and they both were nothing close to what they were before. Instead of going out at the top of your game when you know its time, they hang on and walk away the game a shell of their former self.

John Elway did it right. Im not a Bronco's fan although I dont have anything against the team, its just that Elway knew it was time, he could have played another year yet did not. He stepped away as all players should, and not hanging on for way to long

I agree with all of that, but Elway also had the luxury of "going out on top" after the Superbowl win. I think Favre knows he's got a Superbowl caliber team sitting there and could have one last run to the big game, plus his family is telling him to play another year

Brett only won 1 SB, lost the next year to Elway (who as everyone knows went on to repeat the following year).

And why not come back now when there isn't a clear-cut front runner in the NFC with him behind center for the Packers?.. The cowboys haven't shown they can win in the playoffs

I dont think him coming back now will be a total bust b/c he can still get the job done but hes on a tight time frame for when he just wont be able to do it anymore, or suffer serious injury. They can hang w/ the Cowboys b/c they like to shoot themselves in the foot and I belive the Giants will have a superbowl hangover season much of what the Patriots did after their win in 01.

Honestly Id still like to see him play, 10 years from now NFL football fans that are new to the sport wont be able to see #4 play anymore. Between Brady, Peyton, Farve this is a historic time to be watching the NFL.

I just dont want to see him play to long and walk away from the game a washed up has been

Actually, Rice never retired and came back.

And I'm on board with saying it's time for Favre to hang it up. He was definetly a good player in his prime, but with the exception of last year he had turned into a major liability in his play and held the team hostage every offseason while he decided whether to play or not.

They have Aaron Rodgers, a first round pick, on the roster and his contract will be up in 2009. They need to see if he is the QB of the future or not.
