broke half shaft at the strip

Hey all, I broke my driver's side half shaft cleaning my tires in the burnout box yesterday. IT broke at the CV joint closest to the differential. Here is one small vid of when it happened:

I was able to buy a new half-shaft off of a solid axle converted cobra owner in PA who had it as a spare. Thanks Steel City.

This sucks. Thanks to my cousin, I was able to trailer the car back to his garage last night. I hope to get the new half-shaft and install next Friday or Saturday.

UPDATE:

We pulled the broken half-shaft in about 30 minutes. Surprisingly, it is very easy to do. I expect to get the new shaft sometime next week and my cousin and I should be able to install it in less than 30minutes.

I used Hot Rod Harry's instructions (from modularfords and svtperformance) and Joe Lynch's web page ( http://www.lx.net/jlynch/pumpkin.htm ) to remove the shaft. Steel City (from svtperformance) sold me a spare half shaft.

Well that's what you get when you upgrade to stickier tires! LOL! Why not go with the level-2 half shafts Jason? You know this is going to happen again!

I couldn't tell from the video because the damn annoucer is so loud, but did the car start to wheel hop before the half shaft broke?

The car was wheel hopping off and on. At the time it broke I think it was a combination of a little hop and the tires actually grabbing on the warm rubber.

I am going to look into some better half shafts this week. I am going to replace the broken piece with a stocker for now. Believe me, the next time that car goes to a drag strip it will have a spare set of shafts in the trunk and the tools to change them out.

I know it's gonna happen......just waiting for the day.
I did a few stout powershifts yesterday.....SLAMMING the shifter.
When it does I'll get the 1/2 shafts Jim ran 10.80 @ 130 on along wiht a girdle for the rear end.
