So yesterday I drop my girl off at her apartment compex and go to reverse out of the parking lot. Shift into reverse pull into a parking spot and figure i will pull out chirp the tires a little and enjoy the privleges of mustang ownership... Unfortunetly i cannot seem to get the car to shift out of reverse, i play with it for a little, turn the car off, let off the cluch, push it back in try everything possible to get out of reverse... so my buddie and I right there in her parking lot with her laughing at us take the dashboard apart take the shifter off, and open up the tranny and try to move the gate out of reverse. No luck...

So something is wrong with the internals of my tranny... anybody out there have any idea what it could be and how much this is gonna cut into my beer fund?

You know what I have the same problem in my saleen. There's times where I cant get it out of Reverse. The thing that I do and this is if I have enough room... I keep going in reverse, push the clutch in while the car is still moving in reverse and try to push the shifter out of reverse. Works everytime. Give it a try. If you have no room... then I suggest pushing the car forward manually and give yourself room and try what I stated above. Works for me hope it works for you.

The problem is your T45 hates you. Replace it with a built unit, TR3650, TKO500, or whatever else you can think of - just not another stock T45.

Sounds like you clutch is shot to me. i couldn't get mine out of 3rd. Clutch had broken into pieces. Does your clutch still engage? Could be shift forks too. Probably cost around $500-$600 to fix.

Im heading back to the apartment complex to try what u suggested saleen137 and if that doesn't work im getting it towed back to my place and my mechanic buddie and I are gonna drop the tranny in the church parking lot across the street and take the tranny to the shop...

I felt so bad calling my dad and telling him the car broke cuz his dog just died yesterday and the last thing the poor guy needed was more bad news lol...

That reminds me of that Austrailian guy driving 310 miles in reverse...

(Just to lighten things up a bit...)

SYDNEY (Reuters) - An Australian has been charged with reckless driving after trying to reverse 310 miles across the outback, local media reported on Friday.

Police in Western Australia state were shocked when they saw a 23-year-old man driving in reverse along The Great Eastern Highway at 30 miles per hour on Thursday, said Australian radio.

When police pulled the driver over he said his transmission had failed so he had no choice but to drive in reverse from the gold mining town of Kalgoorlie to Perth on the coast.

The driver told police he had reached speeds of 50 miles per hour but had to slow down because he was swerving too much.

The man was charged with reckless driving and is due to appear in court on Monday, said Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio.

Sorry bro... Hope it works out for you. I know it sucks but that's the way I've handled it and it's worked so far. I'm hoping it will for you as well.

When I blew the 3rd-4th shift fork mine was stuck in 3rd. I had to forcefully pull it out of the 3rd gate to get it to move. After that nothing...not 1st, 2nd or even reverse. Had to be towed by a Chevy...

Ya T-45 is about as tough as PeeWee herman IMO.

Don't bother fix the junk. Replace it(with another T-45 if your strapped of cash, and your car is DD).
Otherwise, T56 or TKO

Its a T-45.

I dont think the T-45's are that much of a POS. They are stronger than a T-5, just weaker than a T-3650 but with 1/10th of the issues the 3650's have.

whats the issue of 3650? little grind between gears, which Ford have TSB out for?
T-45, we have - it grind in to reverse, If you shift really fast between 2nd and 3rd, and kill trans, weak synchros, weak torque capacity, shfts like F-150....

T-45 is, was, and never will be a good trans

Ford needs to do what toyota and nissan are doing for years - over engineer the crop out of their stuff, like how supra's bottomend can support near 1000hp, and trans are good for 800~900 hp? and nissan with those old sentra SE-R with 2.0 DOHC - 145hp engine with 400hp capable crank shaft.....

I dunno, mines never really given me any trouble unless ive made a mistake with it. I always hear people gripe about the 3650's though, and the huge thread of issues on them explains more than just a grind.

Just giving my opinion on it, but I think we can all agree that manual tranny's arent Fords strong point... haha.

And I agree 110% with the last statement!!!
