I was at the local track tonight for the wally races and was doing well. I was in the semifinals and right as I launched I hear a thunk and I did not go anywhere. I thought at first I snapped the driveshaft in half but after pushing the car out of the lanes I found out that I broke my stock axles. I knew eventually this would happen running 7.72 @ 91 mph at the 1/8 but I was hoping they would last longer. Anyway I do not have a trailer so it is stuck at the track till tomorrow when I tow it. This is a bad time for me financially and I am going to need to do a budget repair. I really do not want to stick another stock axle under there and break it again so what about upgrading to 31 spline axles but keeping it 4 lug for now and running a spool. The car is driven on the streets in the summer somewhere around 3,000 a year. Will a spool work on the streets enough to get around? I really do not think I can afford the price jump to a locker. Or shoud I just get another posi? Will a posi hold up at the track? thanks for any suggestions

Seems to me that stock axles would be a budget repair -- or if you can go more, an aftermarket 28 spline setup.

If you're going to go to 31 spline and a spool, might as well go all the way to 33 spline -- same cost.

thanks, I guess I am not on a super tight budget that only allows sock axles but one that does not allow me to get too crazy. I was thinking the Powertrax Lock-rite differential is the only locker under $500 I can find but it is only 31 spline so I will need to go with a 31 spline axle w/ c-clip eliminators. Has anyone used the Powertrax lock rite before? any other suggestions? or things I should also replace

Not really budget but I decided to go for it and get an Eaton locker and 31 spline moser axles with c-clip eliminators. Now I am looking forward to get it back out to the track and not worrying about breaking the rear
