Broken Differential

Help - I am new to this board but I was hoping for some advice. Just put on a procharger, had it tuned and went to the track. Ran twice and on the third run, clutch started to slip (Stock on there now). On the fourth run something broke. Something in the rear...not sure what yet, but something....Worse case i will need to replace the diff, gears, axles, clutch....and while i am in there figured i would put in a flywheel....

What I want to know, what do i get? I have no clue on the diff, but i was already running 3.73 gears. For clutch i was thinking Spec Stage 3+ and Spec alloy flywheel.

Help???

First, get it apart and look at it. If the clutch is wasted, buy a kit and replace the disc, the pressure plate, the T/O bearing and pilot bearing. Then put some new fluid in the transmission.

For the rear....don't just buy all new diff, gears, axles, bearings etc...you might not need all that. When I smoked my diff, that's all I did was smoke the diff. The car was still driveable, but I only had one wheel spinning. MY axles were fine, but I did upgrade to 31 spline while it was all apart.

Oh...and WELCOME!!

It all depends on what you want to do with the car. Have to decide what your plans are for the car. Is it going to see the track a lot more or is it more just a DD with some fun on the occasional weekend. Either way im sure tom at C & S would be able to get it put together right. :nice:

This car is a toy only right now. I dont want to make it track exclusive as i like to drive it in town when its nice out.

As far as what happened, the car does not drive now so I really have no clue what it could be. My brother thinks its the pinion gear only.

Funny you mention C&S as that is where it is now...I just want sure if i should have him do extra stuff or not...plus i wanted to see what everyone else was running in terms of what parts to buy.

As the others said, it's impossible to guess what broke until you or someone else takes a look at it. How certain are you that it is the rear end that broke? Have you gotten the car in the air to see if the driveshaft can be turned by the engine still?

I just don't think it sounds right to break the rear end with a slipping clutch. A slipping clutch will be easier on the rear end and driveshaft because there will be less shock load.

Well I had someone look at it initially and say its something in the rear...The clutch is a completely separate issue...It works fine, just is starting to slip...What I want to know is parts or brands that people have used and had some luck with.

Ford Racing gears in the rear - go with a Trac-Loc rebuild and master bearing/rebuild kit. While you're at it, if you're looking to put down some big power at the track with drag slicks, pick up some beefier 31 spline axles.

No because the stock T-lok is only 28 spline. This is what my setup will be once i get it out of my trunk and in my rear:p. 31 spline t-lok(termi diff) with 31 spline moser axles, FRPP 3.73, and motive master bearing kit. Its not a monster of a rear but it'll handle the power your putting down. Also it wasnt that expensive.
