ok.... i'm damn near ready to set fire to the mf'ing car....
how can i keep the linkage from slipping off? i have had to take my door panels off fixing different crap 4 times in the last week.......... i don't want to be an expert at taking door panels off... i just want things to work, and windows to stay in one piece!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is a good fix to keep the linkage from slipping out of the little plastic retainer in the door handle?

is the little white plastic piece in good shape? any cracks or anything, and the metal rod, is it bent anymore than it should be?

yea those little pastic retainer clips work good if you dont damage them.

if you took them off right the first time without breaking them you should be ok. the first time i ever removed the i could figure out how to get the rod out so i just yanked it out and damaged it. then i was in the same boat you are in .

damn bloopbloob you must have forearms like a python, you have been going through door handles like mad. I'm wondering if the rods are out of shape and they are pulling themselves out of the clips some how or binding. any junk yards around you? you may need some fresh rods and clips. I wish the best for you and hope this crazy streak ends.

I don't remember how much metal sticks out the other side but if you got enough maybe you can drill a little hole and stick a cotter pin in there so it can't back out. Although there's gotta be something effed up somewhere, the rod or plastic piece or something....that's just a bandaid

I just had both my door panels off to fix my window track and fix some rust, mine had a good distance before the rod came out of the plastic piece. I took the driver door handle off and I had to unbolt the handle and push down the rod with my hand and finaggle the rod out of the door handle lever to get it out. and If you're talking about the inner white? plastic piece that is in the end of the door handle lever I don't even have one without problems. Some pics might help

Any other problems with your door handles.... My drivers side had the lock mechanism fail, now it won't 'unlock' although the key turns in the door. I wanted to run the car and cycle it b/c of the cold weather here, and opening passenger handle I forgot it was the Mustang I guess and ripped the handle of the mechanism.... Gotdamn, it is not hard to understand why all the other OEM's buried Ford in domestic auto sales in the late 80's into the 90's. They couldn't even get door handles right.

Arrgh.
