sup everyone, I’m not new to the forums but this is a new account since I forget my old one.

I have a 85 converted 5.0 with a eldebrock performer intake and 4 barrel carb on a standard mid-80’s 302.

the transmission is a 4 speed AOD or 1-D-1 shuffle as some call it.

my throttle pressure cable recently broke on the end where it joins to the bracket which is underneath the throttle cable connecting the two.

its the cable that controls the pressure inside the transmission, and it needs to be on at least for mine otherwise my tranny will burn up.

to the question, I’ve been looking everywhere for a new cable and have rigged mine to work for now, but its always coming off, since the stud that goes thru the bracket and is held by a clip is broke and plastic..*thanks ford*

I have yet to find another in a junkyard, and since my car aint stock in any way shape besides that its a common engine and tranny, transmission shops cant find a piece, and Will charge me alot to have them make something.

I notice alot of other people seem to have this problem as well, and many have talked about getting a lokar kickdown kit I believe they have kickdown kit for C4-C6-AOD fords, I looked at it and it seems it will work, but I’m not much of a gear head yet and my knowledge is limited, I have a friend who has had several mustang and knoes what hes doing but he is busy at his job as am I.

so, what is your guy’s take on the Lokar kickdown cable, do you think its something that will work for me? I really would appreciated it, cause I need this fixed and I will base it on what you guys and my friend say, if its a yes or probably I wlil buy it and try it out. *crosses fingers*

This is my second mustang, first was a 1990 hatchback, burgundy with black interior..I love mustangs and dont want this one to end up a piece of **** cause I can’t fix it.

"Ive posted this at stangsource.com as well, thanks for any help on my kick-down akak throttle pressure cable"

thanks guys. :flag:

I use the lokar cable with a holley avenger myself. Works just fine. I think you'll be happy with it, especially at the nice $30 price. It's easy enough to put in. It totally replaces the TV arm on the AOD and gives you a strong clip for the carb.

Dont even think of driving the car until the cable is back on.

sweet, I'm gonna buy it then and hope it works...My tranny is a AOD correct not the C4, sorry I' m not good with techincals.

should I order from the website or go to a store like schucks and order it there?

I've been driving the car everyday its the only one I have, but I have the cable being held where its suppose to be, so in essence it works, but its just Rigged to work, I have a bunch of hair-ties like 6 of em hold it where it was before the rod broke off....so it still works like its suppose to, obviously just a temp fix.

thanks for the great tips! (anymore?)

I am using the Lokar cables and bracket on mine, and it works great.

I called lokar and talked to their tech about installationa and wheter it will work on my tranny and engine, and he thinks it will.. I'm going to buy the throttle-kickdown and bracket from a local preformance place in auburn which sells it lower then retail.

the only thing really is to make sure the pressure in the transmission is set correctly for the kickdown.

he was talking about pulling the cable to about .275 rpm and have a pressure gage read about 30-32 PSI in the tranny..somewhere where u can hook it up.

or take it to a transmission place and have them put all of it on and set the pressure on the AOD.

I ran into this one time when I did a conversion. I never could find a cable, but I did find an AOD throttle valve rod from Ford. It is an adjustable rod that does the same thing as the cable.

You can usually tell if the line pressure in the AOD is right by feeling the shift pattern when driving. You don't want it stacking the gears, so just adjust it where the shifts draw out as long as you need them when regular driving and when it is on the floor. You can also hang a guage in line on one of the fittings where the cooler lines enter the trany.

You're worse than a bill collector :nonono:
Dude, I'm working (On StangNet), quit calling my cell you b itch :fuss:

If you spend more time with a wrench in your hand (instead of your d ick) you'd have this problem handled by now. :nice:

Ps- How's your Mom doin' ;)

Just pull the cable tight so there is zero slack, pull the throttle all the way open and make sure there is zero travel left. The second is more important than the first.

I have the guage and set the way I described, I get within 2-3 psi every time.

If you still wanted to you could probably score a new bushing from Ford. On the later model cars it is also a problem with the plastic bushings and there is a brass bushing that replaces it from Ford to correct this. Might be the same type of thing for carb'd applications.

BTW, it's not a kickdown cable, they are different.
