My bro-in-law has an '88 with broken low beams.

It also appears there is some heat damage to the YelRed and RedBlk wires on the multi-switch, and to the connector on the back of the headlight switch.:damnit:

If I'm testing the HL switch correctly, it's working.
If I'm testing the Multi-switch correctly, it's working.
Flash-to-pass brights work okay.
Blinkers work okay.
Parking lights work okay.

So I have a few questions:

1. Can someone verify the order of the Yel/Red Red/Blk Lgn/Blk and DkBlu/Org wires on the multi-function switch?

2. Does anyone know the test procedure for the multi-switch (hi/low/pass part only) and headlight switch so I can confirm I'm metering the correct pins?

3. Does anyone have ideas on what could be wrong?

Bro admits some of the wires may have been plugged into the wrong place, as they fell out when he removed the switch from the steering column!

Thanks all.

EK.

If this is a GT it's a fairly common problem due to the foglights sharing the same circuit as the headlights. See the foglight fix.

The diagram should take care of your other questions. It sounds like the wires are in the correct order although the MF switch internal contacts might have gone bad.

Saleen's advice is impeccable as always. :hail2:

As an addition thing to give a looksie and stress: I'd check the appropriate MF-switch terminal for low beams to see if it backed out of the connector shell. I had the Red/yellow wire do this - it was almost unnoticable - a wiggle test revealed it.

Good luck.
