While test driving my new combo, the engine lost all oil pressure. I pulled the distributer and no shaft. I could barley see the lower half, looks like it snapped right in two. My engine should have 350hp, at what hp level should you upgrade the oil pump shaft? Has anyone elses shaft snapped? There must be hardened or stronger shafts available. Ive heard of doing it on 460s.

I don't think it is a matter of how much HP you have as to when you get a stronger shaft. FRPP sells a heavy duty shaft but I would try to figure out what caused your shaft to break to begin with.

It's a pretty common problem. Just happened to me. FMS makes a heavy duty shaft.

ARP Make's a really nice Shaft... A bit Beefier and stronger then the FRPP Shaft (The FRPP Shaft is still a good shaft... Don't get me wrong).
The ARP Part Number for 302's is: 154-7904
I've alway's said Whether your rebuliding a stock daily driver 5.0L or a 600+ HP Blown 5.0 it's alway's a good idea to spend a little more cash and throw a good oil pump shaft in her..... Cheap Insurance.

408-

I never knew that ARP made a replacement shaft.

I have the FRPP shaft. I had a stock one that looked like a Z when it removed it though.

They have been for a while now.... For GM's & Ford's. There a really nice piece and are all I use in my engine build's. Check em' out... you won't go back to the FRPP shaft after you take a look at the ARP one.
