I went to Dragway 42 last night, and only made 4 passes with the old girl. I lined up for my 5th and final pass. When I hit the 1/8th mile and tried to shift into 3rd it was reaL stiff going into that gate. I stayed in the throttle and when it came time for 4th gear shift there was nothing. All the transmission didi was grind. The shifter will not even go into the gates of 3/4 now. I think I broke the shaft or fork. Is this common on the t45? On a good note she ran her best ET and MPH!!

It is commong. The linkage/rails are kind of weak and don't like to be power shifted. Might be a good time for a tko or something...

I didn't power shift but I sure as hell speed shifted. I knew some thing was wrong when third gear was so tough going in. I might go with a Nitro Stang 750hp rebuilt T-45 transmission. They have a sale for $1600 right now. I had a 00 super charged GT making more than 150hp more than my Cobra. That trans was very tough. I am a little let down that it couldn't handle 300 rwhp???

Curious: Does that Steeda shifter have shift stops and are they properly adjusted?

It has the stops built into the shifter. I have the stops set 5/32 oF clearance. I have been reading alot today and it seems the cobra's t45 have been having problem with 3/4 gears.

If there was powershifting on the stock shifter, you may have hurt the forks then, and just prolonged the trans' life with the steeda shifter. I can feel my T45 is kind of hurt because on very rare occasions when driving normally shifting into 4th is impossible until I take it out of the gate and then put it back in. But, my car has done this since 75k miles, and it now has 121k, I am used to it, lol.

ProMotion and Keisler both offer rebuild T45's too. I would buy their rebuild kits and take it to someone locally, you would have a lot less turnaround time and you don't have to pay for shipping your core to them to rebuild.

Sounds like a broken 3/4 shift fork for sure. Let me know if I can help you out with the Nitrostang T45.

Thanks Jeff
