buddy with 2000 GT need tranny help asap

my buddy has a 2000 gt, i was wondering if you could help him out.

when he puts his car in reversse and lets out the clutch and starts rolling, something in the rear of his car makes a poping noise. then when he is driving down the street in 1st through 5th no matter what the speed there is a grinding and squeeling noise......his tranny shifts fine....what could it be?

it sounds like two problems to me. the popping noise could be a bad u-joint, or the bolts connecting the d/s to the pinion are loose. the squeaking noise sounds like a bearing problem. if its coming from the back it could be axle bearings, or a pinion bearing. one other possibility is the rear brakes are going out and he's down to the little piece of metal that scrapes against the rotor to let you know your brakes need replacing.

well he did a gear swap about 6 months ago and put a new clutch in 2 weeks ago. i told him to pull the rear end inspection cover off and take a look. he told me tonight he is going to replace all the bearongs and stuff in his rear end.
