Hey everyone. I was thinking about doing the Mach 1 motor swap until I found out that the Mach 1's available are the automatic version. I know it's not a huge difference, but if I'm gonna soend the money and do an engine swap, I'm getting what I want and that isn't it. So for now, I'm building my engine with P.I. heads, intake, cams, etc. After a couple years, when my stock shortblock is getting tired, I'm going to build myself a new 4V engine. I can't decide though, between a 4.6 with the VT Engines 324 Billet Stroker shortblock or just a 5.4. Which would have more horsepower? Which one would have more torque? Any advantages of either, since each would have the same top end? Thanks.

I think a modestly built 5.4 (333ci) would be your best bet. They are torque monsters and have great top-end power as well! Good luck!

I like VT strokers...lot of power/torque...r u building a 2V or 4V ?...u mentioned PI heads 4.6 stroked/bored to 5.3L..or wait until someone comes up with an easy 5.4L swap solution (computer, intake...)

Personally i say stay with the 4.6 you have and drop the money into it.It will make great power for less if built correctly.

Why did that make you not wan't the get the mach engine. I would think the only difference would be that you would need a flywheel. Maybe a couple of changes in the EEC, but you would probably want a tune anyway.

Arent a few companies offering bored and stroked 5.4 blocks for lightnings? I think they punch them out to like 377ci. This combined with some ported heads, cams, intake and full exhaust would be an amazing combination. The torque alone would be unbelievable.

The auto versions only rev to like 5800 and the manual versions rev to 6800. I think the only difference internally is the manual version has a forged crank that allows it to rev like that and maybe some other little things.

I'm building a 4V. Also, I'm trying to hit 400+ rwhp and stay naturally aspirated.

This is exactly why I didn't want to go with it. If I go with a 4V, I want something that's going to rev higher than my stock 2V.

4V PI? Never heard of them. I was thinking 2V PI with a Stage III port and polish from T&J Performance.

edited for the PI thing.

well if you build a 4V engine, you need 4V heads
if you build a 2V engine you need 2V heads

if you do a PI headswap on ur 98 2V engine you will get 2V Pi heads. They will be useless if you decide to build a 4V engine..is that what u are trying to do ?

OK, I'm actually talking about two different things, and I understand which heads I need for each. Right now, I'm going to build up my stock 2V with Stage III (flowing 248/225 @ .550") Ported and Polished PI heads, Stage II Bullitt intake manifold, Comp Cams, 75 mm Accufab throttle body w/ plenum, C&L 80mm MAF w/ inlet pipe, Steeda timing adjuster, Steeda underdrive pulleys, DiabloSport chip, and intake spacer.

THEN, when my stock shortblock gets tired (100K+ miles), I'm going to build myself a 4.6 Stroker 4V or a 5.4 4V. With these, I'll probably get Ford Racing FR500 cylinder heads and have them ported and polished, and get either the FR500 intake manifold or a ported and polished Cobra intake.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself clearly. Thanks.

Thanks. BTW, has anyone heard of or had any experience with the 'Solid Lash Adjusters' Fox Lake (www.foxlakeracing.com) is selling? They claim that, with them, most engines will see a 30-35 hp increase, even more with more aggressive cam profiles. If I go with the cams I want, which are pretty damn aggressive, it would be nice. And they are $399 for a whole set. 30-35+ hp for $400, do they really work?
