It's finally come time for me to start purchasing parts; however, my problem appears when it comes time for me to choose an engine build.

I'm definitely going to use a 351W as my base with a supercharger. Now, my two options are a 357 with high boost or a 408 with low boost.

I thought I would come here to hear some seasoned advice from those of you who have personally experienced or talked to very reliable sources about the builds. This is a big money project, and I want to make sure the money is spent wisely.

I want to build this while still keeping the car on the street as a weekend warrior so reliability is an issue. I know limitations exist with such an engine and the desire to keep it streetable which is why I came here - to gain additional information. From the information I have gather, it seems best to run a big hp engine as a base then add a minimal amount of boost since high boost numbers stress out the engine; however, it also seems that by using large strokes, one can run into c/r problems with the addition of boost. I'm very interested to see the kind of ideas and information that will be shared.

Thanks,
Aaron

What kind of power/torque numbers could I expect from a n/a 427? 408 is the biggest I've looked into so far.

I decided to go with a 418 and a roller block. My cr is about 10.5:1 with my vic jr's at 57.5cc's and -19.3 dished je pistons. Now I could run the vic jr 70cc heads and a .060 gasket and get about a 9:1 cr with my setup if I wanted too. But my car is my daily driver and i'm going to keep it streetable na for now. I'm also running a chp vic jr spyder intake and a 95mm tb. These engine have so much low end tq that the driveabiality wont suffer like on the smaller cube engines. Now my goal is 418 rwhp na through a built 4r70w and a multidisc converter. Just something to keep up with the 03-04 cobras

I thought I would add to this post by asking what kind of boost people are running with their compression ratios. I'm interested to see some numbers. Over in the PowerAdder forum, a guy claims to be running 10psi with a 10:1 c/r.

on my old car I ran 10psi with 10.5:1 c/r. That was a small cube stock block motor. Just aviod detonation at all costs and keep the mix nice and fat if your going to flirt with those kind of numbers. I'll be undertaking a similar build as yours (see http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?p=5855468#post5855468 for some extra ideas). I've decided on a dart or man o war 351 block (definately 4 bolt) and a big turbo. I want the car to be streetable too but not a daily driver by any means. Low boost should allow for me to drive (expensively) to cruise in's while still holding the ability to go high boost at the track or otherwise. I would suggest that you decide a budget and a power level you want to maintain and then get suggestions from there. My engine build budget is about 10k but your's might be less. You can still see very decent numbers on a budget. Decide the two aforementioned questions and post those so we can work within those parameters.
