Building my own rear seat delete kit. Any tips?

I am going build a read seat delete next weekend since Im off all weekend. I plan on cutting two holes for my 10' subs, putting a port between them and boxing them in on the back of the board so they are sealed in. I am just going to take the seat out and work from there. Anyone have any tips or tricks that I will find useful? And how do I go about removing the seat? I need to know this before I start doing it cause Im going to be away from a computer. And what color carpeting in a GT with tan carpet and black carpet on the back dash would you go with? Im thinking charcoal. And also. how much does a rear seat usually go for like on eBay? I would like to use the money from selling it to get my hood, s 281 spoiler, or nitrous if possible.

i built my own. it came out really good. Just get a 4x8 peice of 3/4 MDF from the depot, then get some large peices of cardboard and make templates. Last goto home depot to get the auto carpet,

I did it much the same way. I took rough measurements of the area, and then used a small piece of cardboard to trace and cut the contour along the sides of the armrest plastic (that goofy S-shape kind of thing). Then I did some cutting, testing, more cutting, etc.

Take a look at Aaron's RSD if you want - I PM'd him for specs and ideas and he was very helpful and sent me some pics. I didnt do subs in the back like you two have/will have, but rather made the rear fold down like stock, along with using a piano hinge to allow underseat storage (two sets of hinges). I just used black carpet since I will make all of the interior black at some point here.

I used 5/8" MDF and it's plenty stout enough for me to sit on - the 3/4 mentioned above would be even stronger.

Thanks. I had a pretty good Idea on how to do it. But who is Aaron? im not to familiar with the guys real names here.

And does how do you get the seat out. I could prolly figure it out but I want to make sure I dont miss anything.

Oh and the ass part just pulls out. You have to lift up on the front then pull out the backs I'm not to sure about

cardboard is your friend, i must have trimmed mine 10+ times to make it perfect

To get the seat back part out, you remove some bolts up top (three go through that black head rest thing that runs across the back, IIRC). Then there's a couple in the metal frame around the upper seat area (maybe). Then there are 2-4 bolts under the seat back - with no seat cushion there, you can see them. That's about it. I had mine in and out a handful of times and it gets where you can remove both parts in about one minute. There arent any hidden ones or anything, so it should be easy.

Do check out Aaron's set up because I think you will find it to be very much like what you want (big subs in the RSD, a storage area beneath, etc.

But what do you have to do to be able to use the underseat storage? Just add another hinge? I will proly put my nitrous there when I get it.

I might have good dimensions on it... just havent tried yet... maybe I'll go do that now.... ive got some spare MDF sitting around.

Here's a quick pic of mine. You can see the black outward hinges to lower the seat back down (you wont do this if you have subs in the seat back) and then the lower partition is for underseat storage. There's a piano hinge under the carpet.

I think that looks good man. I believe I will mix-match when I do mine. I like the storage part in JT's ... and the subs part of Aarons. So I will do both. The only thing is ..... I want to make it so that the subs can be disconnected & removed very quick & easy (for track use). I'll figure something out.

Haha, actually I posted a couple of quick pics of the stangs awhile back on one of Michael's threads in Talk. That was what got me off my butt with pic hosting. But we know I dont have anything nice, so I don't post often. I just posted here to show the two sets of hinges idea.

I also would have loved subs in the seatback, but I dont have the cash for that (I have a box in the trunk; I can hardly hear/feel it). That's definately a great way to do it for you guys though!

Oh, Aaron's is so well blended that you cant see it, but he has the underseat storage too. His lid is wider than mine IIRC. No one could go wrong copying his build IMHO - mine was just a shadetree toss-together.

I used 1/8" masonite....the whole point of the delete I thought was to save weight....using that 3/4" wood is a lil on the heavy side don't you think? All my panels in the back velcro down and pull out in about 20 seconds.

Ryclef, I dont think it's quite so one dimensional. For you, the point was to save weight. For some folks the space is better used with a delete of any sort, heavy or light. For instance, I did mine mostly for aesthetics and some storage.
And for some of these guys, it's hard to mount woofers in the stock seat-backs.

I think it's often more about personalization than saving weight - you'll notice that some of us with RSD's have a fully loaded interior.

Point was that we all use them for different uses (I needed to have something that can hold 50# bags of dog food, etc).
