Has anybody tried having their own supply of nitrous oxide to avoid the cost of getting it from speed shops? The shops around here charge something like $30-50 per 10lb fill. TEN POUNDS. That's god damn ridiculous for a god damn gas. I'm having a ridiculously hard time trying to find bulk nitrous oxide prices largely because, I think, it's something dickheads inhale and abuse. You can get just about anything else easily.

Has anybody tried it? I'm thinking about getting a 80 lb scuba tank (3000 psi), or more than one. I'm really really really interested to see if others have tried this yet.

Oh good lord look at the prices. Ridiculous. You need a tank designed for 3000 psi (scuba) and a hose, valve, and some fittings. That's it. It won't be perfect pressure (past the first fill) but that's because you didn't pay $1000+ for a pump.

I think there is a difference between the "dentist grade" n2o and "auto grade" n2o.

The dentist grade stuff is odorless, while the auto grade stuff has a sulfur smell to deter people from using it to get high..
