burning smell from a/c vents?

so for a little while now(even worse today) the ac/vents when they are on, produce a strong burning type smell. if i leave the blower off for a little while(even a couple minutes) and turn it back on, it will smell REALLY bad and then die down to something a little more tolerable.

also, when i turn the blower all the way up, the blower motor will whine, like its going out or something, i'm not sure whats up.

i took the blower motor out and checked it and it doesnt smell all burnt up or anything like what comes through the vents.

any ideas?

the gerble in the cage finally kicked it, and now your blower motor is dead :p

No really it sounds like you're blower motor is on its way out. What is the burning smell like? Burning electrical motors is a very distinct smell, you can't misplace it

it sorta smells electrical, how safe would it be to have it unbolted and running??? how fast do they spin? will it cut my fingers off? haha

figure its the best way to check it, have it in the open and running, but i dont want it flying off and killing me

update.

pretty sure its the heater core.

on the passanger side of the firewall, right behind the lower part of the engine, there is a little hole and a grommet or something(like a weep hole) well while the car is running, antifreeze is dripping out of that hole and hitting the exhaust(and burning and going into the vents(hense why it doenst smell with the a/c on max(recirulating).

i'm assuming that weep hole goes to the heatercore when its leaking. it left a small puddle of antifreeze under it in my garage while it was running for 10-15 minutes.

I had the plastic around an o2 sensor wire drop down onto my converter and start burning. It started coming in through the vents, I thought the car was on fire.

Sounds like you found the problem though.

yeah, the antifreeze is dripping down onto the exhaust and coming into the vents.

got a lot of the interior apart and i can see antifreeze in the back of the vents and its begun to drip a TINY bit on the drivers side bottom vent

I noticed that the burnt rubber smell is eminating from the right side of the car. It then gets sucked in when I use my heater or AC. But it's been this way for months and I can't find the cause... I also figured that if something is touching the exhaust, it would eventually burn off completely, problem gone...
