Got my GT Monday and ever since I've noticed a burning smell coming from underneath the car every time I drive it. No, I'm not riding the clutch or some such dumb thing. I took the car over to the dealer and they told me it was the undercoating burning off the exhast?!?!?! Has anyone had this same experience? They told me it would go away after awhile but I just dropped 28 grand for a car and now I'm a little paranoid.

I just picked up my new 05 today around noon. Torch red GT 5SP, I stopped to show it to my daughter at her work. I smelled some strnge stuff when I popped the hood open also but I know it's new and you got a lot of engine parts that will heat up and have to cook off the some of the coatings ,oils, paints etc. All that should go away in a few days tops.

Did it smell like... Rubber ???

And did some fine sounds of squealing from the rear end accompany it ??

I cant wait to join you !!

Seriously, good luck with you car !! I wouldnt worry about the smells... Ive driven tons of new cars and always remember the burning smell, it goes away. If not.. THEN WORRY ! and get it back to the dealer.

Mine had an awful odor until it reached about 300 miles or so. No need to be concerned, it's normal.

Had the same smell. It is most likely the packing grease burning off the exhaust. it went away after a couple hundred miles. I am gatting ready to send up a video of my Dyno Tune to ModularDepot.com which shows HORRIBLE smoke coming from the new Magnaflow Cat-back exhaust. it is nothing to worry about unless it lasts for more than a couple hundred miles. It should smell worse after harder driving.

Maybe you ran over a import owner? Don't worry about it, it sounds normal.

I was in the back seat on a test drive with a friend (who was driving)in an 05. The smell was harsh and it made my eyes burn. When we pulled back into the dealer the odometer read 5.5 miles... we broke her in...

Don't worry about it, I agree it's probably machining oil and grease burning off of the exhaust components. If you buy an aftermarket cat back, it will do the same. I put a 3" Mac catback on my 03 Cobra 2 months ago and I still smell a burning oil smell sometimes (basically because the car doesn't get driven much). It might take several thousand miles to get it fully burned off.
