burnout question...help!

ok so i know how to do a burnout...but i was wondering if it is harmful for the car, and exactly how it works. does the brake lever control only the front brakes of my car, or all four wheels? if so then the e-brake would only control the back im guessing...? also, are most cars set up the same way, or are mustangs just different in this aspect...thanks..

All cars are setup with the e-brake locking up the rears. Your brake pedal does front/back 60/40 or 70/30 or something like that...hence why you can do brakestands while still spinning the rears. Not harmful unless your rear hooks real hard when finishing...always spin out of the burnout, dont just completely let off the gas.

Your brake pedal controls the fronts mostly while the e-brake only controls the rear, leave that one alone. Pretty much there are two ways to do a burnout in a mustang. First one, hold in the clutch with the left foot and the brake with the right foot. Slide your right foot right and try to push the gas at the same time and dump the clutch. I dont like doin it that way. Just rev the engine up good and drop the clutch the push in the brake with your left foot, and hold untill you think you've shredded enough of your tires.

Yeah FWD has it easy they just pull the e brake and smash the gas

But on a RWD
If anything you are going to have to replace you rear brakes more often but thats about it

Just be carefull or you could fry that clutch too if you are riding the pedal while you are smoking the treads

Just buy a line-lock kit. Thats what I did...

Burnouts can quickly trash rear brakes... Too much will eventually cause the rear calipers to sieze up. Definitely invest in a line lock if you like to play a lot.

Are you planning on doing this to heat up the rear tires or just for fun? If its just for fun I wouldnt do it too often to avoid damaging anything. Stick with the good ole clutch drop for your burnout pleasure.

So true -just dump the clutch, steer a touch, wiggle you right toe on the gas to modulate and tap the brake as needed. Standing on both the brake and gas will break one or the other soon enough.

I've always revved up, dumped the clutch, and move my left foot over quickly to the brakes and just give enough pressure to stay still. I was told never to use your right foot to modulate both the gas and brake.

I've seen videos of stangs that get to the line at the strip, and their rearend DROPS to the floor. How the ***** do you do that?

Go back and re-read my post - I never said or meant to use your right foot for both - if you are that good you can...kind of a variation on heel-n-toe!

Sorry..I wasn't referring to you. I just know there are guys that do that. I don't see how they can..my feet just aren't coordinated enough to do that. I was told my Mark Luton over at MMR that in order to do correct burnouts, don't use your right foot to do both.

Left foot on brake right foot on gas. If you got a manual rev engine side step clutch and quickly step on brake with left. EVERY tire is different. Most street tires' rubber will turn into lubricant after say 3 seconds. experiment with burning time to find your best 60ft. don't dry hop after the burn. It wastes the sticky melted rubber. stay out of the burn box.

get a line lock....the brake preasure applied to the rear is not good on your brakes or drivetrain
