Burp the system

I've switched to the chrome stainless radiator hoses and am wondering how to burp the system now. The engine runs fine through a few open/close cycles of the thermostat then all of the sudden the temp rises like there's now water movin through the system. I'm using a 180 stat (not sure if it's got a vent) new aluminum radiator with 16" electric fan and the water pump has maybe 200 miles on it.

When I did mine i held the revvs up to about 2500rpm and let it go that way for like 5 minutes, filled it with water again. Then I went for a ride around the block and let the engine come back up to full temperature.

i think you can also run it with the cap off, and that should burp the system
matt

What I like to do is run the car in the driveway with the heater on high and cap off until the thermostat opens and you can see the water flowing through the radiator. You might have to rev it up a little to see the water moving. Then make sure you top off the radiator and put the cap on. Fill the overflow until it is full/hot.
If this doesn't handle it try drilling a small hole in the thermostat at the 12 o'clock position to help.

Another thing that helps is to jack up the drivers side front corner of the car. This makes the rad cap the highest part of the system, and helps the air to get out. Its very common for these things to overheat if the system isnt burped properly.

What would happen if the thermostat was installed backwards? How efficient % would the cooling system operate? Could it cause the problems I'm still having?

Wouldnt the wax core not heat up fast enough since its on non block side!!!!

Sorry I meant that the wax core heats up at 180....then opens right???If the temp on block side goes well above 180 the thing wouldnt open till rad side get to 180????????????????Stay closed eventually has to open but the gage would refect the drastic change in temp.Ive done this!!!!!!!!!!

No good result can come from installing the t-stat backwards. Trust me I know.

May not open at all, may open when the latent temp reaches 180.. which would take alot longer. Back to the topic, the best way to burp it is like said, run the head wide open with the cap off until it heats up, then add coolant, close it up, and go.

I ended up changing the therm housing to the early sbf model that comes out at a 45 instead of 90. This way my upper rad hose is no longer the high-point in the system. Problem solved, thanks for all your replies.
