Hey everyone, I'm the current owner of a 96 GT ragtop that has seen some serious tranny abuse from its former owner. Taking it around to all the shops in the area has brought me to one conclusion, I need a new tranny. The best price so far is $2300 for a Jasper T-45 with a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty on it. Should I do this, or is there a better option? (For example, the T-56?)

Also, when I do get a new tranny installed, would it help to install a short throw shifter? I know the stock one is crappy, but I didn't realize it could hurt the transmission. Any help with this would be appreciated.

$2300 installed? If that is the case, I say thats pretty decent.
If not, look on E-bay. I sometimes see T-45(Or TR3650 for that matter) pretty cheap some time to time(like $300~$700).

Steeda sells the t-45 on their website. You should check it out.

First of all the t-45. I bought mine built by promotion performance and with a steeda shifter, clutch, clutch cable, quadrant, and firewall adj. and royal purple tranny fluid I didn't spend over 1500 bucks. Everything inside of mine is hardened or stronger than stock. It had like a 3-400 dollar core charge. mine has seen a lot of abuse and still works like the day I bought it. They also gave me a 1 year warranty.

The t-56 you have to have someone to cut and weld you a new crossmember in. It should be that great of a hassle. but it is easier said than done.

Thanks for the help everyone, although I've also got another price from D&D performance. It's around $1100 for a T-45 if this can help anyone else.
