buying a 4 cylinder and wanna convert

ok im new to the boards and i plan on buying a 4 cylinder conversion car for 300 dollars i have a budget of 6600 after wards, i have access to a good junkyard and im a novice mechanic, the car is a 1993 4 cyl hatchback with a AOD

i dont want to spend my whole budget getting a clean 1992 lx 5.0 5 speed id rather build one myself knowing every inch of the car as i plan to race it

so im asking you all with my budget of 6600 is it affordable. appearance wise (well exterior) doesnt matter much to me il probably be running Cobra R's and a 3 inch cowl unpainted cuz i got access to a 3 inch cowl w/cobra R's with new rubber for 900 :)

i got a good idea of whats needed and im aware its not a easy swap but i got 7 months to do it and am up for a challenge , also is there anyhting special that i need besides , ECU , wiring harness, engine mounts , 302, V8 T-5, rear end , driveshaft , spindles, brakes, speedo swap, im pretty sure im missing something cuz i heard u have to swap about the whole car

thanks for your help in advance

u can pick up a decent running 5.0 for $2k and build from that. that would be better otherwise u gotta buy a bunch of new stuff. if you need to purchase a ton of stuff to convert a 4 banger with 6600, i would much rather get a running 5.0 and start from there. its more practical. otherwise u could end up spending more cash than u planned.

I sugges5t getting a complete parts car. I did the swap, and was amazed at all the little things that I needed from the donor car, that I probably would have never found at a junkyard. And I did it on a VERY small budget. But it is very rewardeing to say that YOU built the car. At least I think.

You need a wrecked v8 car that has not been vultured. It is the best way to go. That way you can just change whatever you need.

Dont forget to change the fuel pump when you do this. The drivetrain from a 94 will also work. Just be a slightest bit tougher.
