hey all, I plan on having a shop install a built short block into my 2000 GT while I'm away in Iraq. My question is who's the best out there? I'm going to run a Vortech on it as well. I just want a relaible 14# of boost since the GT will still be a DD for probably a year or 2 more. My current stock motor has 70k on it. This is my 1st power adder car, so any help or advice on what I'm getting into is appreciated

MMR looks really good and I think has the best prices. I haven't heard many bad things about them other the some customer service issues. I plan on buying their street mod 900 in a few months when I get home from this sandbox.

I believe MMR also warrants their motors for 1 year, but I'd get it in writing before placing an order. Im also going with MMRs street mod 900, along with a big fat hairdryer

Helty, do you happen to know the big difference between the MMR 600 and 900 shortblocks? I dont see too much of one and wondering why you're choosing the 900 over the 600 unless you plan to push over 600hp

vt is the obvious choice with a massive backing. MMR is good just not as well known as VT. i think either is a good choice. MPh was brought up but i dont think they build motors anymore, but they do installs... could get a motor from mmr or vt and have it shipped to MPH and have them put it together.

don't want to steal the thread here...but how many hours would be involved for a shop to do this install....I know the forged block is gonna run atleast a couple grand...but I've gotta believe all the labor charges of having a shop do the install would be a big deal as well...will someone school me on the avg. estimated time/cost of a block swap...the only reason I haven't done it yet is cuz I've never paid anybody to work on my car, and don't plan on forking out two grand to leave my car in some shop for a couple weeks

i'd imagine somewhere around 6-10 depending on the shop. so prolly look into a grand to 3 grand for install... again depending on the shop. there are specialists that can do it quick and at a fair price, while shaddy place charge nothing but don do good work... then phenominal shops that charge through the nose because they dont like dealing with that type of thing (meaning they are awesome, but not an engine shop)

Well if you want to ship your car to Modular Powerhouse (those guys are awesome which I can say from personal experience) and they can do all he work while you are gone. Then have the fun of driving it back when you come home or they can ship it back to your place. Only other place I trust in our area is Motion Dynamics... Kevin (the guy that does their work) really knows his stuff and takes pride in doing the job right.

I try not to get into pricing in the open...as many feel it's spam, even when directly asked. I'd prefer to answer pricing questions via PM instead of posting it myself.

Are you looking for a shop that can do both? Or do you already have the shortblock and just looking for the install? Either way we can help you out cuz we do it all. Just shoot me a PM and we can go over options on the shortblock and installation.
