Buying a mustang

Yeah, a Honda Accord is more American than a PT Cruiser--built in Mexico for a German-owned company.

The PT Cruiser is a bad example anyway. Anything Chrysler is a bad example, really. I still consider most GM products to be American made, even though many are actually built in Canada. This is simply because Canada is more like the US than anything else, and our economies are closely tied.

I'd buy a C4 corvette, put the new Z06 motor/tranny in it. Maybe suspension if you can work that. I have no idea.

Porshes are realy cool, but owning one is kinda like repairing a car all the time. I worked in a german car repair shop for a while ( a very nice one, they had a chassis dyno for example) They break often and alot of the time the entire engine needs to be removed for simple service (like changing a water pump). I wouldn'tbuy one unless I was rich enough to own it as well.

As far as looks, they all make the trees blurry :nice:

I am considering buying a used C5 over the new Mustang.

I understand how people can think the C5 is an ugly car. Looks are subjective. Aesthetically, the looks factor is a toss up between the two cars IMO.

However, I can't say that these two cars are really comparable. The Corvette is a superior car. Stepping from a Mustang to a C5 is like night and day. The suspension, the engine, the overall feel is totally different. A Mustang is geared more for the straight line whereas the Corvette is a real sports car.

Given, this isn't actually apples to apples. A Corvette is 40k+ car, and the Mustang is 23K+. That's a lotta cash. Cash aside though, I would take a Corvette in a sweet second (whether is be a C5 or C6) over any Mustang you could put in front of me.

66Satellite,

You are right about the Vettes. They ARE ugly. I have been mocked by saying the same thing in the forums. Vettes are ugly. They were once nice looking, but ever since their body style was changed and made rounded, they look ugly. Ugly as hell.

You have mentioned (in various threads) that you think think the following cars are ugly:

Enzo Ferrari
Corvette
GTO
M3

Are there any cars you don't think are ugly?

Yeah,
The 1999-2004 Mustang GT
The 2005 Mustang GT
The Ford GT-40
The 1977-2004 Lotus Esprit
The 2004 Jeep Wrangler
The Ferrari Mondial

All the cars which I mentioned above are NOT ugly. Everything else that's being built is rounded and ugly. I don't like anything else. As you can see, I only like cars which are not rounded looking. And I listed all of them above here.

All the cars which I listed above that I really like are ALL aerodynamic. You don't have to build a rounded car to make it aerodynamic. Any of the nice looking cars which I mentioned above in my list are NOT rounded and they are ALL EXTREMELY aerodynamic. So the stupid notion that people think that linear shaped cars that are not rounded are not aerodynamic is WRONG. They look a lot nicer than the rounded cars and are not ugly looking like the rounded cars. Period.

Excuse me Ron,

A jeep wrangler is about as aerodynamic as a parachute.

I'm pretty sure most Mondial's sold were convertables (yea, real slippery)

and all the ornametation ford saw fit to bolt on to 1994-2004 mustang bodies didn't exactly help them glide through the air better.

Personally, rounded or sleek, it's the whole package that makes style. Some round cars are beautiful, some not, same for linear. I like the crisp clean styling of the original Mustang. That's why I've had one in the garage for almost 40 years.

What I personally don't like about most modern cars is the fat butt. My 65 has a rear like Julia Roberts, while late and future Mustangs (and a lot of cars) are more the Rosanne Barr style. The T-Bird, a notable exception, proves it's unnecessary. So does the Z-3. I just don't understand the big rear style.

I knew id be in the minority but i'll be the first to say NO WAY, if I had the money I would NOT be buying Mustangs. I like sports cars, i'm 18 and in college so obviously I don't have much cash. I have a 2002 GT b/c that's all I can afford right now (and even that, to an 18 year old like me, is rather expensive) As soon I graduate and get settled there is no way I'd go back to a Stang though. If by then I'm still into sports cars I can definately see myself buying a Boxters S or a similar roadster.... those are seriously nice cars, beautiful interiors, the latest features... I think they are great, they are pretty fast but you don't get tagged with that "racer" image that a car like a Mustang can get you. If I'm not into sports cars I would most likely go for a BMW or a Jaguar. A car like the Cobra is obviously faster than most of these other ones i've mentioned but I'm not into racing so it doesn't really concern me much. The 05 Mustang just absolutely killed it for me (and most of my friends too when we saw it in person) I mean at least the current model has some nice curves, this new one has a straight-up 60's Muscle Car look which frankly, I don't like one bit. Impressive horsepower for the price though, gotta give credit where credit is due.

sixstringthing....huh???? I wish i could feel like that. Then maybe I could get this car out of my head! When i saw the car in person (3 seperate times the same day) there were huge crowds around it in Baltimore. No one had one bad thing to say about it. I cant imagine looking at that form and thinking its anything other then a knockout.

I am selling 2 of my current vehicles to get the new 05 Mustang. I've been GM loyal for 25 years and the 2 vehicles I am selling are GM. From day one of the concept (I have not seen it live yet :( ) and now production...I want one bad. I am hoping they will offer the convertible with the v8 in a Non GT. If not...well I guess GT it will be.

Well it just depends on the person, alot of people here being muscle car enthusiasts (obviously) seem to be very attracted to the 05 Stang. Mustangs are great cars for the money, but I've never been into the old 60's muscle cars ... i'm all about luxury sports cars, I really love the hi-tech stuff and the whole image. The 05 is going for the whole retro look, taking most of its cues from the 60's Mustangs...and i don't like 60's muscle cars. The current one does have a few cues from the 60's but it's alot more modern looking than the 05, so I don't dislike it at all even though it's not my DREAM car. The people I took with me (2 guys, 3 girls) aren't big car enthusiasts and they didn't like it at all either, they said it didn't look "sexy" and looked really dated.... but other people there were totally into the retro look and all, so it just depends.

Never would I buy a Porsche. of all the top end sports cars, they are about the only ones I dont like. Viper is a car I wouldnt mind to own, same with Corvettes they are very tempting :nice: One day I might even step out of my Ford boundries and buy one of them! I wouldnt step any farther than buying another domestic though, imports just dont do it for me :flag:

BUT, if I only had one car that I could drive for the rest of my life, no doubt it would be a Mustang. They are true legends to me. They look good, they sounds good, perform well, good bang for the buck sportscar. Stangs just rule in so many ways :nice:

why are you here? why are you wasting our time? I just can't figure out why people who do not like, drive or buy mustangs would spend time on a mustang forum... i would never be caught dead on a subaru or camaro forum... oh, nevermind.. you answered my question.. you're 18...
:notnice:

The person you are responding to owns a Mustang. He simply stated that he would get something better if he had the money (yes, there are better cars out there!).
