I would NEVER buy any other car besides the Mustang. The only time that I would do that is if other manufacturers started building affordable muscle cars that were as fast as and as nice looking as the Mustang. Period.

Sorry....but a Z06 or Viper would steal the Mustang away from me if I could afford it (17yrs old). I am not a loyal to only one company, but when FORD puts out roughly 300HP+ for about 24-26K, how can you beat that....you just can't.

This guy understands what a good a deal the 05 GT is going to be and he's only 17 years old.

Yep even the japanese cannot do 300hp for that price. The STI is 32k with 300hp. Granted, its in a 200lb to 300lb lighter car.

It depends on what you value the most. The overall performance of the STi is greater than that of the Cobra, and it also costs less. But if you care more about the hp number, the Cobra is a better value for you.

I was refering tothe 05 mustang havin 300hp fo 25k not the cobra. Also, I dnt put any stock in the magazine numbers for either the wrx or the sti. The are all over the place. Even Car and drive hinted tht they thought Subaru might be giving them ringers.

That was going to be added later, glad you brought that up....the imports (not ricers...tired of that damn term ) such as STi, WRX, or hell even the 350Z can't even come close that price range. Granted, all 3 are over-all better cars for daily driving....but when you want a daily driver, heritage, and a fun weekend car for the track or shows (events)...nobody is even closer to the Stang.

s7v7n, have you even been in a a wrx or sti? The wrx's feel cheap(my brother in law has one and thinks its the greatrest car ever) and the STI feels like you are riding a skate board. You feel every little bump. I think the new mustang will be a better daily driver.

I'm a mustang guy at heart though I love the looks and performance of the C5 Vette as well. When I bought my Cobra, I could have afforded a new C5 (not z06) but I love power adder cars and I also need 4 seats. With sc cars, small mods equal big gains and it would have taken a bit more to get a Vette where I wanted it. Plus my wife and daughter cruise with me in the Cobra on those nice weekend days. No room in the Vette. I absolutely love the look of the new 05 Mustang and can't wait for the new Cobra. Hell, I woldn't mind keeping my current Cobra and going with a new GT for the daily driver. Let's see, nice house or two nice cars. I think the wife would have something to say about that.

Bad A** American look and sound = Mustang.

Divorced middle age pansy look = Boxster.

I love porsches, but that is a car I probably won't ever own due to its price and small size. I like the fact that a mustang is an affordable, kick ass car that even has a back seat (albeit a penalty box). I'm going to be starting a family soon and I can still get away with getting a mustang, since my wife knows how much I love them, and the above mentioned rear seat. German cars are cool, but I felt a sense of pride owning a mustang. As for the corvette or anything GM for that matter...

Yes, you are correct

Mr. Jack said:
I am considering buying a used C5 over the new Mustang.

I understand how people can think the C5 is an ugly car. Looks are subjective. Aesthetically, the looks factor is a toss up between the two cars IMO.

However, I can't say that these two cars are really comparable. The Corvette is a superior car. Stepping from a Mustang to a C5 is like night and day. The suspension, the engine, the overall feel is totally different. A Mustang is geared more for the straight line whereas the Corvette is a real sports car.

Given, this isn't actually apples to apples. A Corvette is 40k+ car, and the Mustang is 23K+. That's a lotta cash. Cash aside though, I would take a Corvette in a sweet second (whether is be a C5 or C6) over any Mustang you could put in front of me.

You are correct-Corvetts are great. Someone said the Corvette was fiberglass, which is wrong. The Mustang is an excellent buy in its class. The Corvette is a world class sports car. I like both. The C5 is pretty cool. As far as buying Porsche, I would wait for the hardtop version of the Boxster. The 911 is great too. For the money the v6 and v8 'Stangs are great considering all the discounts. I would not buy a Mustang in the first 6 months, and just wait to see how pricing goes. Every Ford so far has been retail priced well over actual selling price. The original post was about money not being a factor, so I would look to another car. I am thinking if price is a concern, the current 2004 'Stang may be discounted down so much in the next few months for even the V8's that it may be irresistable for some. And for those in love of flat sides, the doors are flat sided. I still like it, though my favorite the rounded doors like the '98 had. But everyone likes something different. Heck, its all good! The 2004 model is good!

The c5 is way over rated. Me and my dad just got a 01 vert not to long ago and I was disapointed with it after about 2 weeks. The interior just seems junk and it really doesn't ride that nice. It handels great but you feels every rock that hits they tires. The sets are awesome though, they feel great but it is the little stuff that is total junk. I am not 100% against chevy, they have some nice engines out but it is just the little stuff they can't seem to get right.

Up to 1982, 'vette bodies were made using FRP (fiber reinforced plastic). This is the technical term for the usual mat/chop resin technique most people are familar with. From '82 to present day, including the C6, they swiched to SMC panels (Sheet Molding Compound).
http://plastics.about.com/library/glossary/s/bldef-s4841.htm

Chevrolet describes their body as "composite", which is accurate.

No matter how you slice it, it's still 'glass.

My old man had a 69 Vette a back in the 80's. Nice car, he dropped a big block in there. He lost control, hit a gaurdrail and cracked the back end of the body. Crack started behind pass door and went over to the driver side accross the back. It was the first and last vette he bought.

Good question. In the past, cars like the Camaro had some plastic ( whatever it is ) used for fenders. Currently, I don't know. I did hear the Saturn is going to use metal on their cars for new models. The cost was higher on plastics, and the fit was hard to get right, so it is back to metal. Wonder what the fate of Saturn will be. Is is considered hip? Is it the Scion of GM? One interesting sports car - the Curve, as a concept car. Not sure if I like it, as I have only seen it on the computer screen and not in a show. Did you know that Miata has an aluminum hood ( bonnet ). I wonder if Toyota will consider bring the RWD back to the Celica, as Mustang takes all the glory in 2004. Yeah, I know, Mustangs sell an aweful lot more units. I must say, for FWD, the Celica is pretty neat handling and fun to drive car. Between the 'Stang and Celi, there are good points to each. I don't know what Ford was thinking when the buried the gas pedal so far away in relation to the brake pedal. Hard to swing a foot over easily. I am not into heel and toe, but if I was, it wouldn't work with that setup. OK, one other quirk in the 'Stang is that strange shift lever, bent and so far away. Guess I need longer arms. Looks like that is to change in 2005 model. Other option is the automatic, I guess. Kinda like the stick. Do people owning thse cars like the sticks??? Was thinking that a 2004 may be a bargain when the 2005 are released, though $4,500 to 5,000 off right now is pretty darn tempting. I did own a 1965 and a 1985 Mustang. Was not too impressed with the '85, as it was that 4 cyl, and had soft suspension that made for piss poor handling. My Olds. 98 could out handle it by a wide margin. Gosh, I coulda had a V8, with quad shocks. Was thinking cheap at the time, and got a cheap result. Was a very comfortable to drive - that I can say. So the '85 was good for travel. The 1965 was the 289 V8, and more fun, but it overheated and was a gonner.
