Hi all. I am a new member I've been an on/off lurker here. I've been a big mustang fan all my life I've owned a 73 mustang w/ 302, 82 gt, 82 capri 5.0 86 Gt and an 89 Gt and I loved them al. I wanted something diffrent so I recently bought a S2000 which I am very happy with.
The oppurtunity came up for me to get a 01 Gt conv. at a price i am happy with and I would like some info. on some things to look for before purchasing. It is a Gt with a 5 speed and has 23k on it. I have driven the car briefly and it feels pretty solid and I've checked the usual things clutch, engine noise etc. but would like to know of any problems specific to the 4.6. T.I.A.

BTW, I own a 2000 GT Vert.

Problems with the 4.6 you ask?

- Likes to rev high, unlike the older pushrod 302 (this really is not a problem, just a difference).

- The motors are pretty bullet proof, but the weak link I feel is the IAC (Idle Air Control). They go bad too often, but it's not a show stopper kind of thing.

- Plugs are harder to replace as you have to remove the intake and all the coil packs.

- Motor seems to respond effectively to intake and exhaust mods.

- 99+ motors and better than the 96 - 98 ones as they have different heads that put up 40 more hp.

Another 2000GT vert owner. I have 64K miles on mine with no problems. Plugs aren't bad to change - remove COP and use @ 10" extension. As for mods, mine has most of the goodies (plenum, TB, pulleys, intake pipe, X-pipe, cat-back, programmer, and suspension stuff).

The only problem I had was hitting a concrete bridge guard at 65MPH.

Definitely add SFC on the vert. Add the strut brace also.

BTW, I sold my 96GT coupe with 65k and never had problems either.

Sounds like a good deal Bro, I think you should get it. It should also be under the factory warranty as well.

01 black vert 33500 miles. Only problem is i have to change the dumb tires too often . Occasionally a slight leak on passengers side whee the top meets the car but other than tht no probs. Definitely get sfc's they make a huge difference and really tighten things up. Especially if you get gears or get blown like me

Thanks for the advice all. I've been reading up on the posts here and picking up a lot of great info. I have a couple more questions.
I checked on the build code sticker today to see whether it has the tr 3650 tranny or the t45 and it has the tr 3650. Which is better?
I was also wondering how long the factory warranty is.
Thanks again.
