Hi I need some thoughts about a 85 Mercury Capri ASC McClaren Limited Edition convertable HO 5.0. the ad says that it has fuel injection? Fully loaded. What do I need to look at, is it werth looking at, rust areas. Also were can you get parts? thanks

If its automatic, it probably has CFI. Which is junk, best thing for that is to throw a carb set up on it. Check your typical rust areas, shock towers, floor pans, torque boxes. Where the rear floor pan meets the rear frame rails.

I don't remember any Capri verts after they started the bubble hatch, cept for those specialty jobbies- whole car could be somebody's throw together. If it were me, I'd pass on it, but it would depend on the body's condition, that'd be your biggest challenge. Floorboards up by the firewall or along the seats, frame under the firewall also a good place to hide rot.

Looks like you need to write you some new material. That's getting old.

my 2 cents...the Mclaren's are over rated, make sure like MAC said you check for rust first and foremost

McLaren's were supposed to be the premier car and it was thought that they were going to become something really special much the way Saleen's, etc are. It didn't pan out that way. They are 2-seaters with a fiberflass cover over where the rear seats would be. Body parts are hard to find, the leather seats come apart and the interiors are often a unique beige color. It also has CFI (much like GM's throttle body injection) if paired with an automatic. 180 whole hp. If you ditch the CFI in favor of a carb setup you will make more power and then it won't be a bad setup. You can mod them like any mustang, just remember that as an 85 it has the 7.5 rear and y-pipe exhaust (dual off headers, single cat, dual mufflers and tailpipes)
If it is clean and doesnt leak and you like it, it could be worth it.
