alright I made this crude drawing in MS paint to explain what i'm trying to say. what I'm suggesting is taking the plugs out of the amps (these plugs hold both the input from the head unit wires and the output to the speaker wires) and basically makeing jumpers (as shown in picture) to bypass the amps altogether

I would be putting in a new headunit at this time and my stock amps no longer work correctly. Would this setup work, or would the change in resistance (ohmage) screw up the speakers.

Thanks for any input, sorry the drawings are crappy

I would just run new wires since you are putting in new amps and a new headunit. Besides, the way the speakers are wired up is wierd per via the Mach 460 amps. I hope you are changing the speakers out also as they will most likely not be rated to your amps. My old 96 had Mach 460 that was removed and I ran new wires as to not give myself a headache trying to figure out the spagetti that is the Mach 460 wiring schematic.

And you don't want one amp powering the left and the other the right side speakers. You want one amp powering the fronts and the other the rears.

I would not be putting in new amps, just a head unit. I will probably get an 4000 watt amp for my subwoofers that im gonna put in after I put in the headunit.

Oh, you will need to do more research as the tweets in the Mach 460 don't have bass blockers and like I said before, the wiring of the speakers is wierd from the 460 amps.

And 4000 watts for subwoofers over possibly 50watts per channel for speakers via the head unit? Yeah...that's gonna sound really nice and boomy.

The speakers are what carry the resistance. so there would be no change in resistance, and it would most definately not hurt the speakers.. Problem is, the frequencies are divided up like in a crossover inside the factory amps, so you will not be able to send only highs to the tweets, etc.

Would you recommend a harness to connect to the new headunit from the factory wiring? Would you know where I could get one?
