C&L or K&N???

I think both the K&N and the C&L are good choices.
It all boils down to weather or not you want to spend the extra cash and flash tune your car or not!
The K&N intake does not require any tunning at all, period. It is a legit bolt on mod that will yeild about 15 rwhp. No tune required
The C&L intake will however require a flash tune (due to the MAF size being larger than stock) and a lot of places sell intake, tuner packages. It will cost you more money but will give you more power. Probably around 25-30 rwhp.
I on the other hand have the JLT intake, which, like the C&L requires a flash tune. I happen to use the Diablosport Predator but SCT also offers a good tuner also. I ended up choosing the JLT over the competition because it cost a little less, it produces slightly more power than the C&L and you have the option to get the intake tube painted to match your cars color.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention that even though I am totally happy with my Predator If I could do it again I would go with the SCT II, only because it seems like there are a lot more shops in my area the use SCT over the Predator, which will make future tunning a pain.

I have the C&L and the SCT XCALIBRATOR2 tuner and I tell you this much, I beleive it would boil down to personal preference when you are talking about 3-4 horsepower gains for different intake systems. The tuner is the route to go, I assure you. It took me about 10 minutes to install the C&L, 10 minutes to download the custom tune-93 octane into my cars computer. I took it out on the highway, turned the TC off and gunned through. Shot up to over a hundred mph on the dash...I was still in the 3rd gear! I recommend the set up I got, its my personal preference! and I received a very positive balls-2-the-wall gain in HP. Didnt need a dyno to tell me I was getting more power.
If you get this kit combo, hold on to the wheel because it could get away from you if your not careful.

I did alot of research and finally went with the Demolet.
John Demolet has shown excellent customer service and cares about his customers. Service "after" the sale is really more important (to me) than just the price.
$575 delivered for the SCT2 (with tunes) and the intake.
I bought the SCT2 tuner as well (but still got his tunes).

I bought the PSP C&L kit. The C&L looks like crap, the metal casting makes it look cheap. PSP basically grinded off the C&L logo, smoothed out the intake and powder coated it, added their own filter, and changed the couplings from blue to black. I think it looks awesome

Either way you go C&L or JLT, you'll be happy.
The JLT/Tuner combo is about $100 cheaper than the C&L/tuner combo.

All testing that I have seen indicates the C&L is the best of the two for getting the most power. However, the C&L needs a tune, and the K&N supposedly does not to keep the air/fuel ratio correct.
The C&L is about $100 more than the K&N. I debated for sometime between the C&L and the K&N, but I decided on the C&L unit in the end, and have not one complaint yet!

As for looking like crap I do not really agree. I think its sits under the hood handsomely. If I got that thing polished and open the hood to look at something, there aint to much else under there that is polished. My compulsive desire would be to start replacing every possible thing that could be polished to match my "pretty CAI" ha ha ha

The bolded items are just some examples. Spending hundreds of dollars on an air intake as a first mod is a waste of money when there are better things to do. Gears, for example. I'm sure that we could agree on 4.10s being a better mod for the money then a filter/tube/flash tune.

A CAI/Tuner combo is an easy mod that is a good bang for the buck.
-Headers won't add 20+ rwhp, more like 5-10 w/ a proper tune.
-springs do nothing for power
-control arms & relocation brackets allow you to hook up the rear's better which will make you quicker but does not add power.
-4.10's will allow the driver to get through their gears quicker allow the car to accelerate faster, but again do nothing for overall power.
-Yes, NO2 adds power but a lot of people aren't ready to go that route right away. Give him time.

It's pretty well known that Ford did a pretty good job on the 05 in regards to the exhaust system.
Not a whole lot of power is to be had by going aftermarket like in previous Mustangs. Most people change out the exhaust looking for that right sound.
Now when someone goes with a power adder such as NO2, supercharger, turbo, cam/heads etc. Headers, off road pipes and the like will contribute more power, but not so much with a stock motor with bolt-ons.

yeah, just did want to install it! Didn't like the looks of it.
Believe it or not there is quite a bit of airflow under the hoods of the 05 due to the lack of aerodynamics as compared to earlier years. So I didn't see any need for it.
Yes, the heat sheild helps against heat soak, but the difference isn't enough to be felt by the but-0-meter.
If I get some time this weekend I might data log the inlet temps with the predator. I'll let ya know if I do.
