I am in need of an oil pump(front pump) for my 1966 Mustang C4 transmission. I am not sure the year of the tranny, as it is not original. I am told that the pump is installed with just 4 bolts. I can find the pump, but I need to know if I buy it, could I install it myself? I am very capable with normal repairs and engine rebuilds but haven't messed with an automatic transmission before. It seems to be a straight forward install but I just wanted you guys' input. Thanks.

Changing it is not too hard. The hard part is freeing up the pump from the case. The pump is the most well oiled part in the whole trans, how do you wear one out w/o frying clutches?

Fairly easy job. I did a writeup on it a few years ago (with pics) and you can find it here: http://www.geocities.com/dennis_2685/frtpump.html

A shop manual would also be useful and is recommended.

The only problem I had was that I didn't pay attention as to where to place the shift arm when reinstalling the valve body. It will make sense if you look at it in advance.

If you have problems, just holler.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies guys. The pump does not need to be changed, just installed. The transmission was rebuilt, but the pump was never installed. Now a pump has to be installed. I guess that this is the only way to install the pump(referring to your website)? I was hoping to remove the bellhousing, input shaft, and then just install it. Of course I am sure it can't be that easy, what was I thinking! I will definitely ask for help if I get stuck. Thanks again for the replies.
