Today I finally got my 1967 mustang started agian and cleaned up the wireing mess that I had made from the install of the new wireing harness.

I started the car let it warm up to oper-temp then put it into first gear, Nothing happend?

I had removed the valve body about a week ago to clean out the old tranny fluid and put it right back in, it fit right in and seemed to shift perfectly fine, I know the gears arnt messed up beacuse the tranny was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago.

What could be the problem?

Thanks agian......

ps. its a 1967 C4 auto

Ok solved the problem,
I forgot to add the extra oil like BullitStangV8 said

How many Quarts of Dex dose a stock tranny take? including the converter
I added about 4 more quarts to what i had in the tranny now it locks in perfect

Now run it till it's warmed up and check the fluid level, 4 quarts sounds like to much to me.
If I drop my pan (C4) I need to replace 2 1/2 quarts.

Has the trans been rebuilt? I seem to remember Type-F and Dextron tranny fluid don't play nice together. However my information may be dated with all of the newer formulations of tranny fluid.

Edit: I know originally your trans had Type-F if it's a '67 C-4.

Check to see if your trans fluid is foaming.

Just pull out the dip stick after running it for a few minutes, if there is no foam on it, you're probly ok. The way I understood it something in the two fluids reacted in such a way that it would aerate (?) very easily, obviously lots of tiny bubbles arent a good thing in a hydraulic system. Maybe if it was designed by Don Ho?

Edit: If you have been using it for a while you're probly ok, I think it's mostly when the two are mixed.
