Hi all..

I just bought another 5.0 tonight, and on the way home i was driving probably got on it about half throttle and went from 1st to 2nd and it shifted fine then just went clunk and that was it.. I dont have any gears anymore, but park works.. I checked the fluid and it was empty. I filled it and still nothing.. T here is a whining noise coming from the transmission now. It has a built c4, 3200 stall, and a manual valve body.. I wasnt even on it hard and it crapped out.. what gives?

PLEASE HELP ME SO I CAN DECIDE WHAT TO DO WITH THE CAR!!

1 on the road C4 minus fluid = 1 fried pump
Pull it out and rebuild it. There's metal shavings all through it, I'm sure.
Sorry...

What all is involved with rebuilding it? Its strange that it would just instantly quit while giving no prevois signs that anything was wrong.. It just stopped and that was that

first thing you need to do is take those wheels off, take the c4 out and send them both to me immediately. something is definetly broken in the tranny. check all the linkage and make sure its all intake. pull the pan and check the filter for burned up band material

I'll take a look tomorrow.. I tend to think that the converter went bad.. If the transmission isnt engaging what would be making the noise coming from the transmission.. It is making the noise even in park..

Sounds like a possible major prob, started by a lack of fluid.

A C4 will quit shifting or shift poorly if it is low on fluid, and if you refill quickly, and dont let it burn by spinning dry, it will live again.

Probably killed something like the pump, from running dry, and most likely the clutch seals on the forward clutch, etc.

It could be just a stuck valve body, at the 2-3 shift valve. As a long shot, you could pull the vb and clean the 2-3 shift valve and see if that fixes it. But a cleaning and freshening , or thorough rebuild seems inevitable.

ok thanks! It just seems odd that it shifted perfectly fine and then quit.. Like I said earlier it gave no signs of quitting on me..

pull it out, and tear it down.

this is NOT an aod, this takes about an hour, to have it out, and disassembled........or, send the car to me, and the pink, ill send ya 500 bux

really tho, this is an easy to work on trans, and it is pretty light.........rebuild kits for em are about 50 bux, and pumps (rebuilt) run about 40 for em.......sounds like you toasted the pump, it will need a complete teardown, and cleaning better than you can imagine. expect all this to take about 4-6 hours.

:OT: redstang your avatar looks like my neighbors uncle....lol. I just purchased a ford manual that is like a chiltons on steroids. And it has a good section on trannies. You may could invest in one of those. I am not at home right now but I think it is made by "Haynes" or something like that.
